          “Salt is good; but if the salt becomes unsalty, with what will you make it salty {again} Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another." {Mark 9:50}

Introduction: Often when a person is hospitalized the patient will receive notice that they have placed on a bland diet. Flat, tasteless food is dull, dull, and dull.  Where would a pizza be without Oregano? Any master chef knows that the right amount of herbs and spices makes a dish come alive and flourish.  In our lesson for this morning Jesus tells us that the Christian, living his/her life for Christ becomes the salt of this earth.

1.     Salt is good but if it looses its saltiness how can you make it salty again?

A.   Salt is good

1.     The influence of Christ changes the world.

2.      His influence still impacts the world

B.    But once it is gone it can’t become salty again.

1.     Once someone walks away from the faith it’s hard to come back.

2.     If you die without faith you are eternally lost “where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.” {Mark 9:44}

2.  Therefore, have salt in yourselves

A.   Make the impact that only you can make

1.   There are folk that only you can reach, only you can touch

2.   This is your personal mission field.  Look around you the harvest is ready it is “white unto harvest” the time of salvation is now!

B.    Let the Light of Christ influence those around you.

1.   Jesus said: “so let your light so shine among men that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven” {Matthew 5:16}

2.   When that light shines the darkness of sin and error is dispelled  and the truth of the God shines forth in purity getting brighter day by day.

3. Be at peace with each other.

A.   Be at peace because God is at peace.

1.   He is at peace because Jesus Christ, the Prince of peace has come into this world to give us the Father’s peace.

2.   Jesus Christ, through His innocent suffering and death has become our peace. He took on our misery and sin. By His chastisement we are made whole. This is the gospel message and story. In Jesus Christ all sin is forgiven – period!

B.    Let His peace guide you.

1.    Jesus simply has said: “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.”  {John 14:27}

2.    Knowing of His peace we receive from Him what this world simply can not give. We rest in His peace. We according to His amazing mercy and grace.

Conclusion:  The Christian’s diet is far from bland.  It is given that salt which gives us a zest for life.  It is found in knowing Jesus as Savior and Lord.  Bloom where you are planted, make each day count for Jesus. For you have been called by Him to be salt and light.
