Cornfusion 2000

It was Spring again in Friedheim ‘round
The Werlings had planted, then they hacked it down.
With tillers and hoes they cut a track
Hoping people would come to wander in and back.

The corn soon grew and covered the maze
Hiding mailboxes and clues in Cornfuzed haze.
They made a commercial to show on TV
Luring the masses to be Cornfused as could be.

Just before it opened, they mowed the weeds
Almost losing Pastor (a-maizing direction he needs).
But soon the sun shown down on “Cornfusion 2000” opening day
And people started zig-zagging, finding their way.

The Cornfused came from 18 states around
Waved their flags, solved the puzzles, were lost and found.
Ate hot dogs, walking tacos, sloppy joes and more
(The Concessions committee ran a really good store).

They stomped on the observation deck and laughed at their brothers
Made it up to the belfry before finding the others
Entered the challenge maze and got lost again
Came out and bought produce when they reached the end.

Fall came with the corn turning to brown.
Cooler weather brought out more people from city and town.
The maze became haunted with ghouls in the night
Getting chased by a truck gave all a good fright!

Now the corn has been combined, the field is flat
No more steeple or pulpit or belfry with bat.
The cornfused totaled up to 8765
Thanks to all who made Werlings’ cornfield alive!

Two years now the church folk have had a corn maze
A precedent be set or they just goin’ through a phase?

Another maze challenge is anybody’s guess.

God really does work in mysterious way
To create so much from some corn and some clay.
His blessings to all who shared in the fun,
And made Cornfusion 2000 such a marvelous run.
