Zion-Friedheim Evangelical Lutheran Church

We welcome you to Friedheim.  If you are visiting, please sign one of the guest registries located at either entrance of the church.  If you are communing, please take a moment to complete a communion registration card.  There are cards in either entranceway of the church.  These cards may be given to one of the Deacons or placed in the offering plate.  Please worship with us again soon.

Statement of Communion Practice

We believe that in the Lord’s Supper we receive the true Body and Blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in, with, and under the bread and wine.  We welcome to our Altar all who share this belief and are fellow members of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.  If you are communing with us for the first time, please speak to one of the Deacons or Pastor Dahling.

We remember our members who are celebrating birthdays this week—James Fuhrmann, Linda Conrad, Meri Everett, Travis Hockemeyer, Mark Jackson, Don Bultemeier, Jarvis Cale, Sam Conrad, Brian Erxleben, Shawn Kiess, Alex Lichtle, and Dawn Stoppenhagen.  May our loving Savior direct, bless, and guide their lives.

We rejoice with Todd & Cindy (Bultemeier) Krueckeberg on the birth of the first child, a little girl by the name of Aubrie Leigh, who was born last Sunday morning, June 25.  We pray that our Good Shepherd keep an ever-watchful eye on this most precious of His lambs.

We extend a hand of Christian comfort to the friends and family of Fred Hoffman, Deb Gallmeyer’s father, who was called to be with his Lord on Thursday, June 22, and was given Christian burial on Monday, June 26.  May our Loving Savior be with those who mourn, reminding them of that great day when all will be reunited in heaven.

May the Great Physician grant health and strength to all who are in need of His healing hand.  We remember in our prayers Marlene Conrad, Jared Ehlerding, son of Darrell & Kim Ehlerding (our Wyneken custodians), who underwent surgery at Riley last Friday, and Sandy Franz.

Included in this morning’s bulletin is our weekly study guide, “Time in the Word.”  This week’s theme is “The Creature & and Creator.”

Tune in to the Lutheran Hour which airs on Sunday on WLW (700) out of Cincinnati at 7 a.m. and on Van Wert stations WERT (1220) and WKSD (99.7 FM) at 10:30 a.m.   The program is also broadcast at 8:05 a.m. on WZBD (92.7 FM) and then on WFCV (1090 AM) at 3:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Have you ever tuned in to “Issues, Etc.” that airs LIVE on Sunday evenings from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. on WLYV (1450 AM) in Fort Wayne and on a tape-delay basis on Sunday evenings from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on WFCV (1090 AM) in Fort Wayne?

Are you keeping this Saturday, July 8, open on your calendar?  Why, do you ask?  It’s the church picnic!  Come out and enjoy a hog roast (supper is being served around 5 p.m.), ice cream sundae bar (provided by the LYF), activities for both children (a moonwalk and piñatas to name a few) and adults that start at 4 p.m., and square dancing at 6 p.m.  Bill Werling will be calling the dance.  What do you need to bring?   You are asked to bring a dish to share (vegetable, salad, relish tray, etc.).  Thrivent will be providing the table service for everyone, so you don’t need to bring your own.  Drinks will be provided, unless you want pop, then you are asked to bring your own.  You might also want to bring some lawn chairs for your own comfort.  The ball diamond is also in good shape if you would like to bring bats, balls, and gloves for a softball game.  It should be a fun afternoon and evening so why not invite your neighbors and friends to join us.  Hope everyone can make it!

The men’s softball team has one game this week. Soest will be the opponent at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5, at Hoagland.

Council Members:  The minutes of the June 6 Council Meeting are in your slots in the entranceway of the church.  Please note that the next Council Meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 5, at 8 p.m. in the church basement.  The meeting date was changed due to the 4th of July holiday.

LWML members are reminded that reservations for the complimentary luncheon at Lutheran Home on Wednesday, July 12, are due to Ann Crosby by the 5th.  If there’s time between the end of our meeting and the luncheon, there will be an opportunity to tour one of the apartments at Concord Village.  Following the luncheon, a tour of the new Children’s Village will be given.    You may bring your mites with you to the meeting (envelopes can be found in either entranceway of the church) or you may bring them to church on any Sunday.  Remember, the meeting begins at 11 a.m. with the lunch to be served at 11:45 a.m.  It’s hoped that many members will be able to attend.

Members are reminded that our next Quarterly Voters’ Meeting will be held following the worship service on Sunday, July 9.  Financial reports need to be to the church office by 8 a.m. on Friday, July 7

Confirmation group pictures have been placed on the website.  It would be great to have earlier years also represented.  If you would be willing to loan your group picture for it to be scanned, it would be appreciated.  Anything prior to 1971 is needed with the exception of the Classes of 1967 and 1969.  It would also be a great help to have the names of the members of the class, too.  You may contact Marv Drier.  Thanks for your help with this project.

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is once again supporting this year’s Indianapolis Air Show to be held on August 26 & 27 by recruiting nearly 1,000 volunteers and providing over $100,000 to benefit Riley Hospital for Children.  Last year’s event raised a record of $350,000.  Today is Indianapolis Air Show Awareness Sunday.  Two important dates in July are July 9, Early Bird volunteer registration deadline (Early Birds are eligible for a drawing of $250 worth of gift certificates), and July 31, the final volunteer registration deadline.  For more information or to register to volunteer, visit www.lutheransonline.com/rfo270.

Attendance:  Sunday Worship Service – 206; Monday Evening Bible Class - 6; Early-bird Bible Class – 12n

Don’t forget to use SCRIP over the summer months.  You may wish to see what hotels, motels, and airlines are SCRIP vendors when planning your summer vacation.  And, of course, SCRIP can always help you with your everyday needs—groceries, gasoline, etc.  See Kim Weiland to purchase your SCRIP.  You can E-mail Kim at kimw@sgiinc.com and place your SCRIP order.

During the summer months, the school office will only be open in the mornings (9 a.m. to noon).

Response to the on-line survey requested by the Lutheran Foundation has continued to be slow and we have been given one more week to complete this survey.  Lutheran Foundation has been very generous with grants to help our school.  It would be much appreciated if as many families as possible complete this survey.  The link to the survey is http://surveys.truenorthsa.com.  You then need to enter Wyneken’s six-digit code (474346), which is both the User ID and the Password.  If you don’t have access to the Internet, a paper copy can be picked up from the school office or you may come to school and use one of the Wyneken computers.  If you have any questions, please contact Lowell Timm (639-6177).  (Please remember the school office is open only from 9 a.m. to noon in the summer.)

All audit information, church reports, and committee reports (Childcare, Hot Lunch, PTL, Band, and Athletic Boosters) are to be in the school office no later than Monday, July 17, to be included in the Annual Association Report.

Dates to keep in mind:  The books will be audited on Thursday, July 6, at 6:30 p.m. at Wyneken; Registration information to be mailed mid-July; Reports to be included in Wyneken’s Annual Report to the Association need to be in the school office by Monday, July 17; Annual Association Meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 31; Registration Day – Tuesday, August 8; Opening Day – Monday, August 21 (half day).
