We remember our members who are celebrating birthdays this week—Janice R. Buuck, Pastor Dahling, David Buuck, Brett Gallmeyer, D. J. Kitson  (his first!!), and Sheila Putteet.  We remember all those involved in education including our Wyneken School Board, especially those serving from Friedheim, Randy Everett, Duane Kiess, and Kent Stoppenhagen, our Assistant Sunday School Superintendent, Kim Weiland, and Dave Miller who teaches at Bellmont Middle School.  May our loving Savior direct, bless, and guide their lives.

We remember Ben & Norma Miller in our prayers as they will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary this Friday, January 6.  May the Lord continue to be a presence in their home and bestow His blessings upon them.

May the Great Physician grant health and strength to all who are in need of His healing hand.  We remember in our prayers Leona Worth who is a patient at Lutheran Hospital, Ruth Hartmann who is also at Lutheran, Fred Ruble, Angie Werling’s cousin, Mike Whitacre, Tina Geel’s father and Kris Blomenberg’s brother who was a patient at Lutheran, Gary Jeffrey, Ruby Miller, Leesa Heckman’s aunt, who is at Adams Memorial, Ed Aspy, Bryan Miller, and Alice Bruick and Delmar Fuelling, siblings of Cindy Wass.

Adult Bible Class will take a brief break, resuming next Sunday, January 8, with the lesson, “Moses Before Pharaoh.”  “But they refuse to listen!” Have you ever encountered someone who would not budge, who rejected every reasonable offer? Such was the case when Moses and Aaron stood before Pharaoh. Nine plagues will visit Egypt, yet at every turn the Lord hardens Pharaoh’s heart.

Included in this morning’s bulletin is our weekly study guide, “Time in the Word.”  This week’s theme is “Chosen by God.”

Tune in to the Lutheran Hour next Sunday.  The show airs on Sunday on WLW (700) out of Cincinnati at 7 a.m. and on Van Wert stations WERT (1220) and WKSD (99.7 FM) at 10:30 a.m.   The program airs on Sunday at 8:05 a.m. on WZBD (92.7 FM) and then on WFCV (1090 AM) at 3:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Have you ever tuned in to “Issues, Etc.” that airs LIVE on Sunday evenings from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. on WLYV (1450 AM) in Fort Wayne and on a tape-delay basis on Sunday evenings from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on WFCV (1090 AM) in Fort Wayne?

The men’s basketball team is off this week.  They play next Monday, January 9, at 7 p.m. at the Service Complex.  The Crossroad will be their opponent.

Stewardship Committee’s Food for Thought:  The New Year is here.  Did you make any New Year’s resolutions?  What was it?  To exercise more, to quit smoking, or perhaps, read your Bible daily, spend more time with your family, do a “random act of kindness”, to reach out to someone in need, or become more active in church.  As we remember all the gifts and blessings the Lord has given us, let us resolve to share these gifts with others.

Council Members:  The minutes from the December 6 Council Meeting are in your slots in the entranceway of the church.  The January Council Meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 3, at 8 p.m. in the church basement.

The LWML Thursday morning Bible class will meet at Dorothy Heckman’s home this Thursday, January 5, at 9 a.m.

Next Sunday there will be a door collection for Concordia Seminary.

The Morning Glories will resume meeting this Tuesday.  You are invited to come to the Parish Hall at 9 a.m. and join them!

LYF Members:  Mark Sunday, January 22, on your calendars.  The youth will meet at Wyneken for a gym night from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.  Pizza will be provided.  Please bring your own pop.  See you there.  Also, preliminary dates have been set for the annual ski trip.  The two dates being looked at are February 19 or 26.

The LYF Counselors wish to thank the congregation for all their support this past year.  We’ve enjoyed being with the kids and are looking forward to the coming year.  A special thank you goes out to the kids for their dedication.

As was decided at last year’s Budget and Election meeting, this year we are using generic offering envelopes.  Envelopes have been printed with no dates or offering numbers on them.  There are three different envelopes—a Home Purpose envelope (white), a Mission envelope (blue), and a miscellaneous envelope (#10 white).  LWML envelopes are also available in either entranceway.  A letter explaining the new system and assigning you your permanent offering number was mailed December 23.  If you don’t receive it in a timely manner, please contact the church office.

There will be an Evangelism meeting following the worship service next Sunday, January 8.

Take a moment to read the January Zionews which you should have received in the mail this past week.  (It was mailed on Thursday.)  Information on a $500 scholarship offered by the Decatur Area Lutherans for Life is included in the newsletter.  Your essay is due to Pastor Dahling by Sunday, January 22.

Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur is sending a servant team to New Orleans.  The group will be leaving on Saturday, January 28, and returning on Sunday, February 5.  If you would like to join this group, please contact Le Hook at 724-7433 or E-mail him at lehook@onlyinternet.net.  More information is included in the January newsletter.
