Two reasons:

1.      We don’t know the time of His return.

2.      Only the one who trusts in the Savior can joyfully anticipate His return.

We remember our members who are celebrating birthdays this week—Alan Bergdall, Sherril Bradtmueller, Paul Drier, Dan Schuller, Dean Wass, Gabby Cale, Amy Walker, Kathy Bultemeier, Ken Fuhrmann, and Valerie Harants.  We remember all those involved in education, especially Rae Fuhrmann, our Wyneken kindergarten teacher, Kim Weiland, our Assistant Sunday School Superintendent, and Toney Bergman who teaches at Bellmont High School.  May our loving Savior direct, bless, and guide their lives.

May the Great Physician grant health and strength to all who are in need of His healing hand.  We remember in our prayers Pastor Daniel Brege who had knee surgery this past week, Velma DeKoninck, Gerry & Tom DeKoninck’s mother, who is a patient at Lutheran Hospital, and Bryan Miller.

Through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism, we welcome Melina Rae Baumann, daughter of Trevor and Kelly (Rachuba) Baumann, to the Friedheim family this morning.  Serving as her godmothers are Gretchen Hudson and Teresa Velasquez.  We pray that the Good Shepherd will keep an ever-watchful eye on this most precious of His lambs.

We remember in our prayers the friends and family of Lindsey Arnold who went to her heavenly home last Sunday and was given Christian burial this past week.  Our condolences also go out to the Dick Miller family whose sister, Marilyn Latimer, was called to her heavenly home this past week.  A memorial service will be held at Covington Gardens tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m.  Lowell Timm’s mother, Leonore Timm, went home to be with her Savior this past week.  We pray that the Lord’s comforting arm be around those who mourn and remind them of that great day when all will be reunited in their heavenly home.

This morning’s lesson in Adult Bible Class is “Moses’ Birth and Flight.”  The birth of a baby is usually a time of much rejoicing. Family and friends immediately ask, “What is his name?” The name of the child often speaks of the expectations the parents have for the child. Parents have high hopes for their children. They look for potential at an early age.  The child born to a Hebrew couple came at a time in which a holocaust had begun. The prospects for this child were dim. There seemed to be little hope. Yet God would guide this infant and raise him to be the leader of His people.

Included in this morning’s bulletin is our weekly study guide, “Time in the Word.”  This week’s theme is “The Second Coming.”

We invite you to our Thanksgiving worship services this week.  There will be a service on Thanksgiving Eve, beginning at 7 p.m.  Pastor Dahling’s sermon will be “Four Timely Admonitions” based upon Matthew 6:24-34.  On Thanksgiving Day, “Giving Thanks in All Things” will be the sermon topic.  Holy Communion will be celebrated at both services.  It is hoped you will be able to attend one of these services.

Tune in to the Lutheran Hour next Sunday.  The show airs on Sunday on WLW (700) out of Cincinnati at 7 a.m. and on Van Wert stations WERT (1220) and WKSD (99.7 FM) at 10:30 a.m.   The program airs on Sunday at 8:05 a.m. on WZBD (92.7 FM) and then on WFCV (1090 AM) at 3:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Have you ever tuned in to “Issues, Etc.” that airs LIVE on Sunday evenings from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. on WLYV (1450 AM) in Fort Wayne and on a tape-delay basis on Sunday evenings from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on WFCV (1090 AM) in Fort Wayne?

The poor and uninsured of our nation urgently need our help to receive even basic health care.  Wheat Ridge Ministries is helping congregations organize volunteers to meet these needs.  Thousands of people you may never meet this side of eternity are benefiting from the kindness of donors supporting Wheat Ridge Ministries.  Thank you for being a Good Samaritan.

Don’t forget to check out our website, www.zionfriedheim.org.  You will find bulletins, newsletters, and recent pictures of events.  If you have any pictures to share for the site, make sure you contact Marv Drier.

Stewardship Committee’s Food for Thought:  Giving is a natural part of loving.  As the adage goes, “We can give without loving, but we can’t love without giving.”

The LYF will be serving supper before our mid-week Advent services.  Mid-week services begin on Wednesday, November 30.  The youth invite you to the Parish Hall for a spaghetti supper that night.  On the menu—spaghetti, breadsticks, salad, drinks, pies and cake.  Serving begins at 6 p.m.  (Church begins at 7 p.m.)  LYF members, please be at the Parish Hall at 5:15 p.m. that night to set up and help with the meal.  In addition, everyone is asked to bring one jar of spaghetti sauce with, the sophomores, juniors, and seniors bringing one pie and the freshmen bringing a cake.

The Morning Glories will be going to St. Jude’s craft show (near Parkview Hospital) this Saturday, November 26.  Show hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Set up will be Friday, November 25, at 1 p.m. If you can help, please contact Marlene Conrad or Shirley Buuck.  The Morning Glories will not meet weekly again until January.  Watch the bulletin for the start-up date.

Sales at the Hessen Cassel craft show totaled $281.25.  Thanks to all who help make these shows a success by donating items, helping with transporting items to and from the shows, and working the day of the sale.

The Morning Glories could use mattress pads, towels, quilts, or chenille bedspreads.  If you are replacing some of these items with new ones, please consider giving the old items to the craft group.  Thanks!

Choir members are reminded that there will be no Wednesday night choir practice this week  (November 23), but the choir will practice prior to the church service (8:30 a.m.) on Sunday, November 27.

Advent by Candlelight reservation forms are to be returned by tomorrow.  Please note that the date is incorrect on the flier.  Advent by Candlelight will be on Monday, November 28The beneficiary of the in-gathering has been decided—Kurtis & Teresa Smith and their four children (ages 2, 4, 6, and 8).  Teresa is the daughter of Rev. Paul Doehrmann, pastor at New Hope Lutheran Church in Ossian.  Kurtis was a Director of Christian Outreach at a New Orleans area congregation.  Teresa is a stay-at-home mom who home-schools their children.  Due to Hurricane Katrina, they are without a job as well as unable to live in their home.  Presently they are living in the Ft. Wayne area in temporary housing.  Monetary donations are requested as this will be most beneficial to this family.  A short slide show will be presented at Advent by Candlelight focusing on Hurricane Katrina.

Just a reminder—When borrowing tables, chairs, roasters, etc., from the Parish Hall, please contact Cheryl Bultemeyer.  She has the master list of when the Hall is rented and what is available to be used when.  Thanks for your help!

Monday Night Bible class will not be held for the next two Monday evenings.  Class will resume on December 5.

The men’s basketball teams faces United Brethren in their second game of the season this Monday, November 21, at 6 p.m. at Monmouth.  If you need more information, please contact Steve Conrad (547-4597).

Choir Members:  During Advent season, the choir will meet following the worship service on Wednesday evenings.

The Trustees are taking bids for church custodian, Parish Hall custodian, and groundskeeper.  Please submit your bid by Sunday, November 27, to one of our Trustees—Leonard Bultemeier, Glenn Buuck, Marc Lichtle, or J. D. Nidlinger.

Come to the brunch sponsored by Thrivent after the worship service today.  Enjoy hash brown casserole, egg casserole, cinnamon rolls, orange juice, and coffee in the Parish Hall basement.  If you are a Thrivent member (16 years of age or older) you may vote for our local board.  Everyone is welcome and there is no charge for the meal (not even a free-will offering!)

Next Sunday’s bulletin will be printed on Wednesday.  Please have any announcements for next week’s bulletin to the church office by 8 a.m. on the 23rd.  Thanks!

The LWML Thursday morning Bible class will not meet again until Thursday, January 5.  They will meet at 9 a.m. that day at the home of Dorothy Heckman.

An update from the Lutheran Foundation concerning their matching grant for hurricane relief:  Cash gifts from a congregation, school, or individual already raised will be matched.  Any new funds raised by a congregation will be matched.  An individual who completed Thrivent’s matching grant form can have that gift matched once again by Lutheran Foundation.  Any gift given to other Lutheran organizations will be matched.  How?  Contact the church office with the following information—Name, amount donated, date of donation, and where donation was sent—for individual donations.  One form will be sent to the Lutheran Foundation.  These gifts will then be matched and used to help support the four congregations in the Southern District adopted by the Indiana District.  Please turn this information in to the church office by Thanksgiving.  Thanks!
