Zion-Friedheim Evangelical Lutheran Church

We welcome you to Friedheim this summer day.  If you are visiting us today, please sign one of the guest registries located at either entrance of the church.  If you are communing, please take a moment to complete a communion registration card.  The cards can be found in either entranceway of the church and may be given to one of the Deacons or placed in the offering plate.  Please worship with us again soon.

+ Soli Deo Gloria +

We remember our members who are celebrating birthdays this week—Carrington Bultemeier, John Nidlinger, Bonnie Buuck, Eldora Fuelling, Roger Manley, Chad Baumann, Nina Secaur, Patty Strickler, Brian Bergdall, and Bernice Berning.  May our loving Savior direct, bless, and guide their lives.

May the Great Physician grant health and strength to all who are in need.   We remember in our prayers Hildegard Kiefer, Lyndsey Arnold, and Bryan Miller.

We remember in our prayers Adam Sielschott and Angela Staub who were married yesterday afternoon at the Lord’s Altar here at Friedheim.  We pray the Lord’s blessings upon them as they begin their life together.

We thank Jennifer Phillips for sharing the gift of music with us this morning as she is filling in for Sandy.  May the Lord continue to bless her

The flowers on the altar this morning are in loving memory of Clifford and Margaret Kiefer by their children and grandchildren.  Family was very important to Cliff and Margaret.  Why don’t you take a moment to let your family and the special people in your lives know how much they mean to you.

Congratulations to Keith and Julie Bock who are celebrating their first wedding anniversary today.  May the Lord continue to be at the center of their home

Included in this morning’s bulletin is our weekly study guide, “Time in the Word.”  This week’s theme is “God is for All People.”

Tune in to the Lutheran Hour next Sunday.  The show airs on Sunday on WLW (700) out of Cincinnati at 7 a.m. and on Van Wert stations WERT (1220) and WKSD (99.7 FM) at 10:30 a.m. The program airs on Sunday at 8:05 a.m. on WZBD (92.7 FM) and then on WFCV (1090 AM) at 3:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Have you ever tuned in to “Issues, Etc.” that airs LIVE on Sunday evenings from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. on WLYV (1450 AM) in Fort Wayne and on a tape-delay basis on Sunday evenings from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on WFCV (1090 AM) in Fort Wayne?  This week’s topic is “American Civil Religion” with guests Dr. David Adams and Dr. Ken Schurb, co-editors of “The Anonymous God.”

Stewardship Committee’s Food for Thought:  “People who get the most done, who make their lives really count for something, are the ones who don’t wait around for the perfect mood or moment.  If something ought to be done, they get started and keep going.” – Peter Whit

The Planning Committee has a sample of a pew cushion that will be in church for the next several weeks.  Members are encouraged to use it and then give their opinions to a member of the Planning Committee (Dale Heckman, Tom Blomenberg, or Ron Buuck).  Remember that this is just a sample, the color and design may change if we go with this company and this product.

The Altar Guild will meet in the church basement on Tuesday, August 9, at 7:30 p.m.

Plans for the church picnic are being finalized and the committees are eagerly awaiting the 28th.   There will be a euchre tournament, a moonwalk, activities for the kids (all ages), and an opportunity for fellowship.  How can you help make this a more enjoyable day?  By your presence!  What do you need to bring?  A side dish (vegetable, salad, or relish tray) to share, lawn chairs (if you want a little more comfortable place to set), pop (if you don’t want to drink the punch that is being provided).  Paper plates and plastic ware will also be available (or you may bring your own table service).  There will be a hog roast and the youth will be having an ice cream sundae bar (free-will donation).  Activities will begin following the worship service.

The Board of Evangelism is encouraging each family to invite someone to church on the 28th and then stay for the picnic.  So take a moment and ask a co-worker, neighbor, family member, or friend to come with you to church and enjoy the fellowship for the remainder of the day!

The LYF has decided that the donations received from the ice cream sundae bar will go to the Bryan Miller and Lyndsey Arnold funds.  Both Bryan and Lyndsey have brain tumors and continue to undergo treatments.

The LYF will have a meeting following the worship service on Sunday, August 21.  They will be going over the work schedule for selling elephant ears at Poe Days (August 26 and 27) and any last minute items for the picnic.

Our church website is functional and current once more.  It has been redesigned for easier navigation.  We are also working to have a more visual presence.  Check out the pictures of our youth’s raft trip.  More pictures to come.  If you have pictures of a recent church event, please share them with the website by contacting Marv Drier.

Rally Day (September 11) will be here before you know it.  To help in organizing this year’s Sunday School program, we need to know who plans on teaching this year (on a full-time basis or as a substitute).  Please contact Shirley Drier (547-4419), Kim Weiland (639-3804), or Pastor Dahling by August 28 if you wish to be a part of the staff as a teacher, helper, or substitute.  We thank those who work with our young people in our Sunday School program.  God’s blessings to each of you.

The LWML Bible class will meet at the home of Adele Blomenberg this Thursday, August 11, at 9 a.m.

Registration forms for the horseshoe and volleyball tournaments to be held during Poe Days (August 27) are in either entranceway of the church and need to be returned to the Poe Fire Department by August 14.

The Bellmont Athletic Boosters are having a “calendar raffle” beginning the week of August 10 and for the following 29 weeks.  There are 2,000 calendars being sold, each with their own raffle number.  Each week five winning numbers will be drawn for one $400 prize and four $25 prizes.  All winning tickets will be placed back in the raffle for the following week’s drawing.  The cost of the calendar is $20 and can be obtained from any Bellmont athlete.  If you have any questions, you can contact Denise Conrad (547-4717).

Have you just cleaned out some closets or have items left from a garage sale that you don’t know what to do with?  The Wyneken Extended Childcare could use puzzles, games, books, toys, or other suitable items for their room.  You can drop the items off at Wyneken or contact Tami Schultz (547-4540) and make arrangements to get the items to her.  Thanks in advance!
