We remember our members who are celebrating birthdays this week—Brittany Bergdall, Anna Buuck, Sandy Blomenberg, Jon Buuck, Chris Gorman, James Gorman, Ashley Manley, Floyd Thieme, Anna Crosby, Hubert Fuelling, Bailey Kaehr, Marv Drier, and Stan Stoppenhagen.   We also remember in our prayers our resource room teacher at Wyneken, Cindy Roy, Dawn Miller, our Sunday School Superintendent, and Christine Bultemeier who teaches at Heritage Junior/Senior High School.  May our loving Savior direct, bless, and guide their lives.

May the Great Physician grant health and strength to all who are in need.   We remember in our prayers Irene Kiess and Maxine Baumann, Sam’s mother, who are patients at Adams County Hospital, Alma Miller who recuperates at home and Bryan Miller.

We extend our Christian sympathy to the family and friends of Ludella Wiese, mother of Addy Schuller, who was called to her heavenly home and was given Christian burial last Tuesday.  May the God of all comfort be with those who mourn and remind them of that great day when they will be reunited with their loved ones in heaven.

The flowers on the altar are to the glory of God and in honor of Richard and Margaret Buuck who are celebrating their 62nd wedding anniversary today.  May the Lord continue to bless them.  The flowers have been placed in church, with much love and admiration, by their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

We remember Gerhard and Hildegard Kiefer who will celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary on Saturday, May 14.  May the Savior continue to be the center of their home.

We also remember in our prayers Samantha Herman and Brian Erxleben who were married before the Lord’s altar yesterday afternoon.  May our Loving Father bless them as they begin their life together.

The Sunday School classes are presenting carnations to all the moms, grandmothers, aunts, and special ladies this morning as a thank you for the special things you do for us.  May God’s blessings be upon each of you.

We would like to thank Becky Blomenberg for her gift of song this morning and pray for continued blessings in her life.

Pastor will be attending the pastors’ conference in Syracuse this Monday and Tuesday.  (He will be commuting back and forth.)  If you are in need of pastoral assistance during this time, please call his home and leave a message.

The Altar Guild will be meeting this Tuesday, May 10th at 7:30p.m.

Confirmands, your pictures have arrived; please see Pastor after church to pick them up today.

Included in this morning’s bulletin is our weekly study guide, “Time in the Word.”  This week’s theme is “The Advent of the Spirit.”

Stewardship Committee’s Food for Thought:  “God is love (I John 4:8) and He shows His love for us by giving.  “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16). First God loved, then He gave, and He keeps on giving.  Forgiveness, salvation, and, in fact, all we are and everything that we have or ever will have are gifts from God.

Our LYF will be serving Nelson’s port-a-pit chicken on Sunday, May 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  You can pick your chicken up in the church basement or at the Meyer’s station across from Bingen.  Pre-sale tickets are available at $4.50 per half.  The proceeds will be used to help fund the youth’s white-water rafting trip this July.  See an LYF member for tickets!

Players are needed for our men’s softball team.  Questions?  Contact Kevin Buuck (724-7952).  Our first game is on Sunday, May 22nd.

The confirmation class would like to thank Betty Sielschott for placing the arch in church last Sunday.  Thanks for thinking of us and giving us this special gift.  Many pictures were taken in that archway!

There will be a door collection this morning to benefit the Gideons.

Tune in to the Lutheran Hour next Sunday.  The show airs on Sunday on WLW (700) out of Cincinnati at 7a.m. and on Van Wert stations WERT (1220) and WKSD (99.7 FM) at 10:30a.m. The program airs on Sunday at 8:05a.m. on WZBD (92.7 FM) and then on WFCV (1090 AM) at 3:30p.m. and 7:00p.m.

Have you ever tuned in to “Issues, Etc.” that airs LIVE on Sunday evenings from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. on WLYV (1450 AM) in Fort Wayne and on a tape-delay basis on Sunday evenings from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on WFCV (1090 AM) in Fort Wayne?

Thrivent GivingPlus Program

The Wyneken Expansion project has been completed; however, the Thrivent Giving Plus program still offers the opportunity to make your contributions go farther.  It was decided at the January, 2005 Annual Voters’ Meeting to keep open Friedheim’s “Wyneken” bank account in order to take full advantage of this Thrivent program for our 300+ Thrivent members.

The money contributed to this account will be used on conjunction with the general fund to make our monthly payments to Wyneken.  Please consider donating a portion of your home-purpose contributions through this program, under the following guidelines:

v     Make checks payable to Wyneken, not to Friedheim.  This is necessary to receive the matching funds.  Be sure to clearly note “Wyneken” on the envelope you used to make this contribution.

v     There is no need to give more than $600 per Thrivent member to this program, as that is the maximum that qualifies for the match.  Thrivent matches 50 cents on the dollar up to this limit for a maximum $300 match.

v     Make your contribution as early in the year as you can.  There is a fixed dollar amount set aside by Thrivent for matches, and once it has been reached, contributions will no longer be matched.

v     For this same reason, send in your GivingPlus form as soon as you have completed your donations to the program for the year.

UPDATE:  Thrivent Financial for Lutherans announces the GivingPlus Program challenge grant initiative.  Our congregation already enjoys the benefits of the GivingPlus Program.  Now we can receive additional outreach dollars by participating in this year’s challenge grant.  How can we participate?

1.       Sign up for the challenge grant initiative by July 1, 2005 at www.thrivent.com/givingpluschallenge.

2.       Engage a minimum of 1123 Thrivent Financial members into the GivingPlus Program by December 1, 2005.  (Member gift forms must be received by Thrivent by that date.)

3.       Reach both these goals and our church will receive a proportionate amount of the total $800,000 challenge grant by January 31, 2006.)
