The Rite of Confirmation

After the Confirmands receive the blessing, we ask the congregation to stand and join in a prayer of commitment to Jesus Christ.  As we think of the day when we spoke our vows, may this confession renew our faith that we might more diligently and faithfully serve Him and walk in His ways.

The Pledge of Commitment to Christ (in unison)

Lord Jesus Christ, our Savior and King, we look to You today, as we pledge ourselves anew to the faith and work of Your kingdom.  Forgive our failures of the past, and enable us by the power of Your Holy Spirit to lift anew our hearts and our minds, that we may constantly serve You and love You, as You have served and loved us.  Dear Savior, accept our hearts this day, and make them always Yours.  Amen.

 May God show you favor
And smile on you, I pray,
And bless your confirmation,
On this, your special day.

May you never waiver,
Where the scriptures are concerned,
And always keep within your heart
These lessons you have learned.

Take all your problems to the Lord
And in Him confide
And in trials and temptations,
May He always be your guide.

As you mature in Christ,
May you grow strong in every way
And continue the life you’ve started
On this your confirmation day.

+ Soli Deo Gloria +

We remember our members who are celebrating birthdays this week—Kim Schamerloh, Jenny Schamerloh, Tanner Walker, Don Erxleben, Perry Caston, Tim Blomenberg, Kayla Johnson, Gilbert Hartmann, and Allison Hormann.   We also remember in our prayers our principal at Wyneken, Lowell Timm, Shirley Drier, Assistant Sunday School Superintendent, and Kristie Brown who teaches in the public school system.  May our loving Savior direct, bless, and guide their lives.

We celebrate with Gerhard and Dorothy Werling who will celebrate their 54th wedding anniversary this Thursday, May 5.  May our Loving Savior continue to be at the center of their home.

May the Great Physician grant health and strength to all who are in need.   We remember in our prayers Bernice Caston, Ed Aspy, George Geyer, Alma Miller, Maxine Baumann, Sam’s mother, who is a patient at Adams County Hospital, Sara Horton, and Bryan Miller.

The flowers on the altar are to the glory of God and in honor of the Confirmation Class of 2005.  May our Savior bless Anna, Mike, Chris, James, Andrea, and Kevin as they continue to grow in the Lord.

Our fieldworker, Stephen Zehnder, received his vicarage placement.  He will stay close to Ft. Wayne, serving at Zion Lutheran Church in Woodburn.  Let us remember Stephen and the other candidates as they continue their studies for the ministry.

Included in this morning’s bulletin is our weekly study guide, “Time in the Word.”  This week’s theme is “Christians in a non-Christian World.”

The will be no Sunday School or Adult Bible Classes this morning.  Classes will resume on Mother’s Day (May 8).

Make plans to attend our Ascension services at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 5.  This will be another opportunity to praise our Lord.

Tune in to the Lutheran Hour next Sunday.  The show airs on Sunday on WLW (700) out of Cincinnati at 7 a.m. and on Van Wert stations WERT (1220) and WKSD (99.7 FM) at 10:30 a.m.  (With the time change, these programs may be own at a different time.)  The program airs on Sunday at 8:05 a.m. on WZBD (92.7 FM) and then on WFCV (1090 AM) at 3:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Stewardship Committee’s Food for Thought:  Jesus said, “Freely you received, freely give” (Matthew 10:8).  In the words of Billy Graham, “God has given us two hands, one to receive with and the other to give with.”  As nice as it is to receive gifts, it is even more meaningful to give them.  Finding joy in our giving, we begin to understand why Jesus said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35).

Have you ever tuned in to “Issues, Etc.” that airs LIVE on Sunday evenings from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. on WLYV (1450 AM) in Fort Wayne and on a tape-delay basis on Sunday evenings from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on WFCV (1090 AM) in Fort Wayne?
