+ Soli Deo Gloria +

We remember our members who will celebrate birthdays this week—George Geyer, Jan Linnemeier, Becky Blomenberg, and Shirley Gehres.  We also remember in our prayers our Wyneken School Board, especially those members serving on the Board from Friedheim, Mike Conrad, Kent Kiefer, and Kent Stoppenhagen, Shelly Kiefer, one of our Sunday School teachers, and Jan Heimann who teaches at Bellmont High School.  May our loving Savior direct, bless, and guide their lives.

May the Great Physician grant health and strength to all who are in need.  We especially remember in our prayers Clarence Bultemeier, Armilla Conrad, Ann Crosby, as well as George Geyer, Jo Buuck and Stephanie Sanderson, Paul Des Jean’s sister, who have all returned home, and Marlene Fuhrman, sister-in-law of Shirley Hormann, Jim & Bill Fuhrman, who is undergoing rehab at Lutheran Hospital.

Included in this morning’s bulletin is our weekly study guide, “Time in the Word.”   This week’s theme is “The Joy of the Resurrection.”

Tune in to the Lutheran Hour next Sunday.  The show airs on Sunday on WLW (700) out of Cincinnati at 7 a.m. and on Van Wert stations WERT (1220) and WKSD (99.7 FM) at 10:30 a.m.  (With the time change, you may wish to double-check the times of the Ohio programs.)  The program airs on Sunday at 8:05 a.m. on WZBD (92.7 FM) and then on WFCV (1090 AM) at 3:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Have you ever tuned in to “Issues, Etc.” that airs LIVE on Sunday evenings from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. on WLYV (1450 AM) in Fort Wayne and on a tape-delay basis on Sunday evenings from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on WFCV (1090 AM) in Fort Wayne?  Rev. Wil Weedon of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hamel, Illinois will lead a discussion on “Worship.”

The LLL/LWML Spring Rally will be held this afternoon at 3 p.m. at Preble.  A light supper will be served following the meeting.  The guest speaker is The Rev. Dr. Daniel Gard of Concordia Theological Seminary.  He will speak about his experiences as a chaplain while on active duty.  All are welcome to attend.

The LWML Spring Praise Service, “Living in Green Pastures,” will be held this Saturday, April 24, at Soest.  Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with the service beginning at 9 a.m.  There will be an ingathering for “Second Chance.”  Requested items include a corn broom, quart canning jars with rings and lids (the jars and rings don’t have to be new, but need to be in good condition), a pressure cooker for canning, vegetable seeds and seedlings, any women’s personal hygiene products, or canned food.

Make plans to attend our Quarterly Voters’ meeting that will be held following the worship service today.

Gardeners:  Remember as you make your plans for your vegetable garden to keep in mind our mission project.  We will be donating any extra produce to “Second Chance,” a ministry for women in Ft. Wayne.  Think about what “extras” you might want to plant that will help feed these women and their children.  When you have “extras,” you can bring the items to the back of the church basement entrance towards the end of the week or on Sunday mornings.  We have someone who has volunteered to deliver the produce.

LYF MEMBERS are reminded that they will be participating in “Join Hands Day” to be held on Saturday, May 1, beginning at 8 a.m.  Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is coordinating this event.  You are asked to meet at Kekionga Park at 8 a.m. for donuts and then will be given your work assignment.  One of the projects will be flood clean up at Kekionga Park.  At least six other youth are asked to commit to going to another site for some painting (please let Corbin know if you are willing to do this).  At noon, you will be fed lunch and then will be released for the day.  If anyone else in the congregation would like to help with this project, you are welcome to attend.  All the youth groups in Adams County will be participating in this project.  Let’s have a good turnout from Friedheim!

The Lutheran Home Auxiliary card party will be held Wednesday, April 21, beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the Assembly Hall at Lutheran Home.  Tickets cost $3 and can be purchased from Donna Hileman.

There will be another Orphan Grain Train clothing, shoes, and bedding collection this year on May 7 & 8 at the parking lot of Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur.  As soon as we have information on the time the site will be accepting items, the information will be passed on to you.

The Bethlehem Lutheran School’s PTL is hosting a Swiss Steak Dinner on Sunday, April 25, with serving from 11:15 1.m. to 1 p.m.  Proceeds are to help the family of Jakob Dawson, infant son of Nicole Dawson.  Jakob has Down Syndrome and a heart condition and the family is struggling with his medical expenses.  Matching funds will be available from Thrivent.  Please keep this family in your prayers.

Emanuel Lutheran Church Ladies’ Society will hold their semi-annual rummage sale at 800 Green Street, New Haven, on Thursday, April 22, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Friday, April 23, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  A $2 bag sale will be held on Friday.

The Kantorei of Concordia Theological Seminary will present the music of the Easter season this afternoon at the Kramer Chapel on the campus of the Ft. Wayne Seminary.  The concert begins at 4 p.m.

April and May chapel offerings will be given to Lutheran World Relief to help poor families in Krygyzstan.  The offerings will be used to help these families purchase sheep, cows, and chickens, for their community farms and thus help provide food, employment, and clothing.  So far the offerings have helped to purchase two sheep.  Thank you!

Choir Schedule:  The 6th graders will sing at Preble today at their 10:15 a.m. service while the 7th graders sang at Bingen this morning. The 8th graders will sing at Friedheim on June 6 (9:00 a.m.).

The Wyneken 8th grade class of 2005 will be having a chicken BBQ on Mother’s Day, May 9, from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.  Pre-sale tickets cost $4 per chicken half and will be available this morning through May 2.  You may purchase your tickets from Anna Buuck, Mike Buuck, Chris Gorman, James Gorman, Andrea Johnson, or Kevin Schultz.

The class will also be selling flats of flowers, geraniums, hanging baskets, perennials, as well as gift certificates. You can also order pepper plants, tomato plants, cabbage, and broccoli.  (You will receive the gift certificates immediately and can go to Sandpoint Greenhouse when it is convenient for you to get your plants.  You can also mix and match your flats this way.  There is an expiration date on the certificates of May 31, 2004; however.)  Orders are due no later than April 30.  Delivery date to Wyneken is May 7.  If you are interested in making a purchase, you can contact any Wyneken 7th grader (see above).  The profits from each of these fundraisers will go towards their Washington, DC trip in the spring of 2005.

Although the 7th graders are singing at Bingen this morning, if you would like to get your pre-sale tickets for the chicken or purchase spring flowers, you can see any 7th grade parent who is in church this morning.

The Hot Lunch Committee is looking for a volunteer to take over the duties of treasurer.  The person who takes this position will be responsible for maintaining the daily lunch count also.  Please call Dawn Buuck (724-7952) if you are interested in this position.
