We thank Seminarian Eric Brown for delivering this morning’s sermon message.  We pray the Lord’s blessings be upon him as he continues his studies for the ministry.

We remember our members who will celebrate birthdays this week—Amy Erxleben, Tammy Dahling, Dirk Stoppenhagen, Julie Heimann, and Josh Miller.  We also remember in our prayers, our Rae Fuhrmann who teaches kindergarten at Wyneken, Stan Stoppenhagen, one of our Sunday School teachers, and Jean Timm who teaches at Unity Lutheran.  May our loving Savior direct, bless, and guide their lives.

May the Great Physician grant health and strength to all who are in need.  We especially remember in our prayers Marlene Fuhrman, sister-in-law of Shirley Hormann, Jim & Bill Fuhrman.  She is a patient at Lutheran Hospital.

Congratulations to Tony & Dana Myers who will celebrate their first wedding anniversary tomorrow.  May God continue to be at the heart of their home and bless this family.

Included in this morning’s bulletin is our weekly study guide, “Time in the Word.”   This week’s theme is “God Receives Sinners.”

Tune in to the Lutheran Hour next Sunday.  The show airs on Sunday on WLW (700) out of Cincinnati at 7 a.m. and on Van Wert stations WERT (1220) and WKSD (99.7 FM) at 10:30 a.m.  The program airs on Sunday at 8:05 a.m. on WZBD (92.7 FM) and then on WFCV (1090 AM) at 3:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Did you notice the bookmarks in the hymnals?  They are courtesy of the 7th and 8th grade Sunday School class.  (They still need to make a few more to be placed in the hymnals on the north side of the church.)  We thank them for this thoughtful gift.

Stewardship’s Committee Food for Thought:  God doesn’t need our money to do His work, but He does need us to let go of our money’s hold on us so we can do His work.  By doing this work (winning souls for heaven), God will give us a much greater gift than any amount of money could buy.  Consider this verse:   “Do not neglect doing good and sharing; for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” – Hebrews 13:16

Have you ever tuned in to “Issues, Etc.” that airs LIVE on Sunday evenings from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. on WLYV (1450 AM) in Fort Wayne and on a tape-delay basis on Sunday evenings from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on WFCV (1090 AM) in Fort Wayne?

Come one, come all to our Annual Soup & Sandwich Dinner held today at Wyneken.  Serving will be from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Bring your family and friends and enjoy the homemade soups, sandwiches, salads and desserts.  Many thanks to the overwhelming response from our Friedheim family for donations and time.  Carryouts will be available again this year.  Please use the southeast entrance.  Parking spots will be reserved for your convenience.  We ask that you use the southwest entrance (old 6th grade) if you are dining in.  This will keep the traffic flow at a minimum.  The free will offering will go towards the church’s foundation repair.  Through the “Care in Congregations” program, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will be matching the funds.

Our congregation will receive $1,600 from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans to add to the profits of our Soup & Sandwich Dinner through its Care in Congregations program.  To receive this money, we need to report all time spent by volunteers in planning, preparing for, and working at the dinner.  To help with this, each committee chairman is being asked to turn in a list of names and volunteer hours for each person that contributed to their committee.  These reports need to be given to Kris Blomenberg, Leesa Heckman, or Mike Heckman by March 21.  Thanks!

The LWML Quarterlies and the Portals of Prayer have arrived.  You may pick up your copy as you leave the worship service this morning.

The LYF will host a Lenten supper this Wednesday, March 17.  Serving will begin at 6 p.m. in the Parish Hall.  A free-will donation will be accepted.  (The menu has not yet been determined.)

The congregation is invited to listen to the Concordia University (Nebraska) Acappella Choir performance at the Embassy Theater on Monday evening, March 15, at 7:30 p.m.

Members are reminded that due to federal regulations, hospitals no longer inform the church when a member is admitted to the hospital.  Please contact Pastor Dahling if you are being admitted for a procedure so that he can visit with you.  Thanks for your help in this matter!

Pastor and his family will be taking a short vacation over spring break.  They will be out of town on March 25-27.

You are invited to attend the annual LLL Prayer Breakfast to be held on Saturday, March 20, at 8 a.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 917 West Jefferson Blvd., in Ft. Wayne.  Rev. Kenneth Klaus, from Lutheran Hour Ministries, will be the guest speaker.  See Al Hormann for tickets.  A donation of $5 is being asked.

High School Seniors & College Students:  As a reminder, if you are a Wyneken graduate and plan on attending a Synodical college and intend to serve in a church-related profession, you are eligible for the Germann Servanthood Scholarship.  Awards will be given up to $750 per school year.  Please contact Rich Schwantz at Wyneken (639-6177) for more information.

Have you remembered your Prayer Partner lately?

C. Penney’s, and L. S. Ayres allow you to pay off your charge card with SCRIP?  Kim Weiland is our SCRIP representative.  You can see her following the worship service today. You can also E-mail scrip@wyneken.org and place your order.

Market Day order forms need to be returned to school by Friday, March 19, with Internet orders due by noon on Saturday, March 27.  Pick-up day will be Thursday, April 1, from 6:30 p.m.- 7:30 p.m.    If you cannot pick up your order on the 1st, just prepay (cash or check made payable to Market Day or prepay for Internet orders by using your VISA) and arrangements can be made.  April is Ice Cream Bonus Days!  There are 4-12 oz. milk shakes per box in great flavors!  Specials this month include pot roast, popcorn shrimp, chicken Parmesan sandwich, chicken tenders, chicken stir-fry, egg rolls, and granola bars.  Frequent buyers are reminded to order this month to receive your free trail seasoned salmon and free apple pie!  If you have any questions, please contact Sharon Franke (623-3992).

Pre-enrollment forms for the 2004-2005 school year will be mailed to Wyneken families in mid-March (just before spring break).  If you know of a family who might be interested in sending their child to Wyneken (especially for the Pre-K and kindergarten programs), please have them call the school office to be placed on the mailing list.

The Wyneken Mini 4-H meetings will be starting after spring break.  The leaders are in need of parental volunteers from grades kindergarten through second to help supervise the children during the meetings.  The meetings will be held in the cafeteria on Tuesdays from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.  If your children will be participating in this year’s 4-H Fair (July 18-22), please consider assisting the leaders during these meetings to make it a beneficial learning experience for your child.  Please contact Sharon Franke, Edie Krueckeberg, or Tina Geels for more information.

The accreditation team will be visiting Wyneken this week.  They will be at our school from March 16-18 visiting the classrooms, talking with the faculty and staff, and reviewing all aspects of our school.  Wyneken wishes to thank everyone who worked on the various committees in preparing for this visit.

The end of the third quarter is Friday, March 19.  Parent/Teacher conferences are scheduled for Thursday and Friday, April 1 and 2.  Wyneken will dismiss at 12:25 p.m. on both of these days.  There will be no afternoon bus service for all students.  Please make arrangements to pick your children up on these days.  Thanks!

THINK SPRING!  This year’s 7th grade class will be selling flowers and bedding plants to earn funds for their 8th grade trip to Washington, DC.  Information will be going home soon with the students.  Watch for more information.

Please send in any “Box Tops for Education” that you may have March 19.  The end of March is the last mailing date for this school year and we would need some time to bundle the items to their specifications.  (Continue saving the box tops after this date; we will send them in next year!)

This year Wyneken will be going with North Adams spring break—the week of March 21.  Students riding East Allen busses will need to find bus transportation to and from school the week of April 4 (East Allen’s spring break).

The Wyneken Music Department will present their spring concert on Thursday, April 22, at 7 p.m.  Grades 3-8 will be participating in this concert.

A scrapbook is being compiled and assembled for Mrs. Donna Schieferstein.  If you have any pictures of her with your or your child, we would like to borrow them to scan and use in the book.  You may also wish to include a note about the picture and the year taken (and include your name so the picture can be returned to you).  If you have a memory to share, just drop that off at the school office or give it to Rae Fuhrmann.  Thanks!

Northwest Elementary School will be the site of kindergarten round up this year.  It will be held on Tuesday, April 6, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  Children who turn 5 years old on or before July 1, 2004 may enroll for the 2004-2005 school year.

Parents are reminded to phone school if your child will be absent due to illness or other reason or will be late because of morning appointments.  The school should be notified by 8 a.m.  Thanks for your cooperation in this matter.
