We remember our members who will celebrate birthdays this week – Spencer Scheumann, Alyssa Schuller, Jacob Lee, Mike Brandt, Dave Miller, Tami Stoppenhagen, Caden Culp, Kathy Moellering, Ethan Lehman, and Armilla Conrad.  We also remember one of our Wyneken 8th grade teachers, Yvonne Schwantz, Teri Conrad, one of our substitute Sunday School teachers, and Gretchen Hudson who teaches in the public sector.  May our loving Savior direct, bless, and guide their lives.

May the Great Physician grant health and strength to all who are in need.  We especially remember Jo Buuck who has returned home.

We remember in our prayers the family and friends of Renee Myers, aunt of the Bergdall children, and Robert Gage, grandfather of Jessica Linnemeier, who were called to their heavenly home last week and were given Christian burial on Wednesday.  We pray that the Lord will comfort those who mourn and remind them of that great day when they will be reunited with their loved ones in heaven.

Included in this morning’s bulletin is our weekly study guide, “Time in the Word.”   This week’s theme is “God’s Glory Manifested in Transforming Power.”

Tune in to the Lutheran Hour next Sunday.  The show airs on Sunday on WLW (700) out of Cincinnati at 7 a.m. and on Van Wert stations WERT (1220) and WKSD (99.7 FM) at 10:30 a.m.  The program airs on Sunday at 8:05 a.m. on WZBD (92.7 FM) and then on WFCV (1090 AM) at 3:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

The LYF will be assisting residents of Lutheran Home to their worship service on Sunday, January 18.  We will meet at the Parish Hall and leave at 9 a.m.  Donna Hileman has invited the youth to her home following the worship service at Lutheran Home for some “goodies.”  Plan on helping on the 18th!  (Note:  The LYF ski trip is scheduled for February 8—Mark your calendars now!  Drivers and vans will also be needed that day.)

Stewardship’s Committee Food for Thought:  Sometimes we are concerned that someone might be taking advantage of us when we are giving to them.  Although we must be wise stewards, we must also realize that God knows what is in our hearts.  Even if our gifts are used inappropriately, God will know we meant it for good. Consider this verse:  He who is gracious to a poor man lends to the Lord, and He will repay him for his good deed.” – Proverbs 19:17

The men’s basketball team will play The Crossroad at the Service Complex on Monday, January 12, at 7 p.m.

Have you ever tuned in to “Issues, Etc.” that airs LIVE on Sunday evenings from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. on WLYV (1450 AM) in Fort Wayne and on a tape-delay basis on Sunday evenings from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on WFCV (1090 AM) in Fort Wayne?

There will be a door collection this morning to benefit the Concordia Seminary.

The 2003 Annual Report and the 2004 Membership Directory are in the process of being typed and printed.  If you have a report for the Annual Report, please turn it in by tomorrow.  If you have an up-dated address or phone number, please let the church office know that also.  Thanks!

Wyneken News

SCRIP is available on Friday afternoons at Wyneken as well as on Sunday mornings.  Kim Weiland is our SCRIP representative.  You can see her following the worship service today. You can also E-mail scrip@wyneken.org and place your order.  Rave SCRIP now costs $6.  If you purchased Rave SCRIP in 2003, the theater will honor the price you paid up through the expiration date marked on your tickets.  SCRIP recently gave the PTL a check for $8,000 bringing the total given to PTL since July 1 to $15,323.02.  Thanks for all your support.

The Wyneken Extended Child Care program is in place to help you.  If you find yourself in any unexpected situation, let this program fill your needs.  You may call 639-6064 (school line) or contact Tami Schultz, the director of the program, at home (547-4540) if you have any questions.  Extended care hours are 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m.; 8:00 a.m. – 11:40 a.m. for afternoon kindergarten families, and 2:45 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Market Day order forms are included in this morning’s bulletin.  It’s cookie dough time!  Our goal is to sell 250 tubs of cookie dough.  The cost is $9 per tub.  (This would translate into a profit for Market Day of $688 and more if we sell more that 250 tubs.  If we sell 249 tubs we would make $438—look at the difference in just that little increase and that’s the profit on cookie dough sales only!)  Last year we just came short of selling that amount.  Let’s try to meet the goal this year!  Also the “cold cash” promotion continues.  Anyone ordering over the Internet in January is eligible for the daily drawing to receive $100.  Orders need to be returned to school by Friday, January 23, with Internet orders due by noon on Saturday, January 31.  Pick-up day is Thursday, February 5, in the old gym from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  If you cannot pick up your order on the 5th, just prepay (cash or check made payable to Market Day or prepay for Internet orders by using your VISA) and arrangements can be made.  If you have any questions, please contact Sharon Franke (623-3992).

The PTL is sponsoring a mother/daughter bowling night at Decatur Villa Lanes Bowling Center on Sunday, January 18, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a pizza supper.  The cost is $4 per person and is limited to the first 100 entrants.  Drinks and show rental will be extra.

The SCRIP pizza party will be on Friday, January 16.  All students and staff will be treated to a FREE pizza lunch, served at regular lunch times.

January Events:  The Wyneken Spelling Bee will be held on Tuesday, January 13, at 1 p.m.  The end of the first semester is Friday, January 16, with report cards being sent home on the 23rd.  North Adams parents will need to make arrangements for their children to get to and from school on the 16th.  There will be no North Adams bus service all day.  Students riding East Allen busses will need to find transportation to and from school on Monday, January 19, as East Allen is closed that day.  School will dismiss at 12:25 p.m. on Monday, January 26.  Students riding North Adams busses will have transportation.  Students on East Allen busses will need to find transportation home that day.

Parents are reminded that help is needed at home games.  People are needed to work in the concession stand, run the scoreboard, keep the scorebook, and clean up after the games.  If you are willing to help, please contact a member of the Athletic Boosters or Mr. Schwantz.  Older brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles, grandparents, or anyone who is interested in our athletic program are welcome to help, too!

The LSAA has asked Wyneken to host several games in this year’s LSAA varsity basketball tournament.  On Monday, January 26, we will host two opening round games in the boys’ tournament and on Thursday, January 29, we will host the semifinals of the girls’ tournament.  Help will be needed in the concession stand, clean up, etc.  Please check your schedules and see if you would be available to help us be good hosts!
