We remember our members who will celebrate birthdays this week – Robert Hartmann, Tori Johnson, Shayla Lee, Sylvia Scheumann, Jenny Spangler, Mary Gallmeyer, Dana Myers, Mike Heckman, Ashley Hunkins, Carley Manley, and JoEllen Eidam.   We also remember Keith Dicke, our 7th grade teacher, Tim Blomenberg, one of our Sunday School teachers, and Gretchen Hudson who teaches in the public sector.  May our loving Savior direct, bless, and guide their lives.

May the Great Physician grant health and strength to all who are in need.  We remember in our prayers Ralph Selking (his wife, Marcia, is a cook at Wyneken) who is undergoing rehabilitation at Lutheran Hospital.

We welcome Helen Whitacre, Kris Blomenberg’s mother, to the Friedheim family.  She has transferred to us from Concordia.  May the Lord bless her in her new church home.

Included in this morning’s bulletin is our weekly study guide, “Time in the Word.”   This week’s theme is “The Christian and His Opposition.”

Tune in to the Lutheran Hour next Sunday.  The show airs on Sunday on WLW (700) out of Cincinnati at 7 a.m. and on Van Wert stations WERT (1220) and WKSD (99.7 FM) at 10:30 a.m. (You may wish to double check the time since Ohio is now one hour ahead of us.)  The program airs on Sunday at 8:05 a.m. on WZBD (92.7 FM) and then on WFCV (1090 AM) at 3:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

A Lenten devotional booklet, Shepherd and Sheep, is being compiled.  How can you help?  Simple, approximately 35 individuals are needed who would be willing to write a short devotional on a selected Bible verse.  If you would like to participate in this project, please contact Pastor Dahling.  Although Lent seems a long time away, we would like to have this portion of the project done prior to Thanksgiving.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Stewardship’s Committee Food for Thought:  God’s blessings, other than material, might be a happy marriage, children, and good relationships with family and friends.  Consider this verse:  “Behold, children are a gift of the Lord; the fruit of the womb is a reward.” – Psalm 127:3

Have you ever tuned in to “Issues, Etc.” that airs LIVE on Sunday evenings from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. on WLYV (1450 AM) in Fort Wayne and on a tape-delay basis on Sunday evenings from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on WFCV (1090 AM) in Fort Wayne?  On the tape-delay program the topic will be “Liberal Theology.”

Today is LWML Sunday.  You may select a new “Prayer Partner.”  There are forms in either entranceway of the church if you would like to participate in this program.  There are baskets in either entranceway for you to place this form.  As you leave the worship service this morning, please remember to take a slip from the basket in the entranceway.

Heard of the Battle at the Bighorn?  Ours is the Battle of the Brethren (Lutheran Style).  You are invited to be a part of the 2003 Lutheran Circuit V Fast pitch Golf Outing today.  This event will begin at noon with a shotgun start at Cross Creek Golf Club in Decatur.  The cost is $40 per person with four people per team.  You can contact Todd Busick (418-0050), Fred Fuelling (728-2529), or Steve Conrad, our softball team manager.  A light lunch will be provided at the turn with a nice warm dinner provided afterwards by Fuelling’s Ladies’ Aide.  This year’s golf outing is slated as a prime FUNdraiser for the continuance of the Circuit 5 Fast pitch Softball League.  Please join in following your Sunday morning services for a great day of fun, fellowship, and food!

It’s Lutheran Witness subscription renewal time!  The cost per subscription is $12.  You may place your $12 in the envelope provided in your offering packet.  (If writing a check, please make the check payable to Zion, Friedheim.)  The deadline for renewal is Sunday, October 12.  Thanks!

The date has been set for the children’s Halloween party.  All Pre-K through 8th grader is invited to come to the Parish Hall on Thursday, October 30, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.  The 7th and 8th graders will be going on a hayride while there will be activities in the Parish Hall for the Pre-K through 6th graders.  Each LYF is asked to bring two bags of candy to be used in the treat bags and for prizes.

Friedheim is hosting the LLL/LWML Fall Rally to be held on Sunday, October 19, beginning at 3 p.m.  Rev. Daniel May, our new District President, will be our guest speaker.  The LWML will serve a light supper following the rally.  Make plans to attend!

The annual World Relief Pick Up is scheduled for Saturday, October 18, from 9 a.m. to noon at St. John’s Lutheran Church on West Washington Street in Fort Wayne.  Just bring your items to the parking lot behind the school.

The 7th & 8th grade Sunday School students are collecting books for a service project.  If you have books (in good condition) that you would be willing to donate to this project, you may give them to Lin Gorman or any 7th or 8th grader.  These books will then be distributed to an elementary school whose students have limited funds.  Thanks for helping with this project.

Your help is needed!  The Morning Glories will be going to the Glenbrook Bazaar and Bake Sale on Friday and Saturday, October 17 and 18.  Baked goods should be brought to the Parish Hall by 8 a.m. on either Friday or Saturday morning.  People are needed to help transport items to and set up the display at Glenbrook on Thursday evening (we will meet at the Parish Hall at 8 p.m.), work in the booth on the 17th and 18th, and pack up and transport items back on Saturday night.  There is a sign-up sheet in the south entranceway of church.  We just got our notification from Glenbrook.  They have moved our booth location.  We are now in front of Sears.  Please look over your calendar and see if you have time to help.  The profits from this year’s sale are going to replacing some of the heat registers in the Parish Hall.  We are also receiving matching funds from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans for this project.

Council Members:  The minutes from the September 2 Council meeting are in your slots in the entranceways of church.  The next Council meeting is Tuesday, October 7.

The Portals of Prayer have arrived.  You may pick up your copy as you leave the worship service this morning.
