We remember our members who will celebrate birthdays this week—Paul Des Jean, Nathaniel Hess, Doug Hormann, Robin Secaur, Gerhard Werling, Dawn Miller, Dorothy Heckman, Sara Werling, and Marvin Conrad.  We also remember our Wyneken cooks, Angie Werling, Sharon Brenneke, and Marcia Selking, and our Wyneken custodian, Kim Ehlerding, as well as Dave Miller, one of our Sunday School teachers, and Monica Stoppenhagen who teaches in the public school system.  May the Lord continue to direct, bless, and guide them.

May the Great Physician grant health and strength to all who are in need of His presence in their life.  We especially remember Jim Kaehr, Jon Kaehr’s father who is a patient at St. Joe Hospital.

Included in this morning’s bulletin is our weekly study guide, “Time in the Word.”  This week’s theme is “The Coming Christ.”

Tune in to the Lutheran Hour next Sunday.  The show airs on Sunday on WLW (700) out of Cincinnati at 7:00 a.m. and on Van Wert stations WERT (1220) and WKSD (99.7 FM) at 10:30 a.m.  The program airs Sunday at 8:05 a.m. on WZBD (92.7 FM) and again at 3:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on WFCV (1090 AM).

Bids are needed for Parish Hall custodian and groundskeeper.  If you have any questions or wish to submit a bid, please contact one of the Trustees (Calvin Buuck, Steve Conrad, Tom DeKoninck, or Dale Heckman).  Please let them know as soon as possible.

The LWML’s “Advent by Candlelight” will be held tomorrow evening at 7:00 p.m.  You are reminded to bring your ingathering items to benefit Wings of Hope.  Needed items are laundry soap or personal “luxury” items such as lotions, colognes, perfumes, etc.

Our midweek Advent services begin this Wednesday (7:30 p.m.).  Pastor Dahling’s sermon will be “Peace in Our Time.”

The Tabea Society is planning their Christmas party for Wednesday, December 12, at Concord Village.  The meal will be served at noon.

An appreciation supper is being planned for all who helped or supported Cornfusion III.  Mark Friday, December 7, on your calendar.  Serving will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Parish Hall.  Come and enjoy chili/chicken noodle soup.  A free will donation will be accepted.  Be a part of the  “Chili Cook-Off” and “Cookie Bake-Off.”  Bring a small pot of chili and/or one dozen cookies and the others attending will vote on their favorite.  The winners will each receive a $10 gift certificate.  Please call Mary Gallmeyer or Shirley Buuck if you are interested in participating in either the “cook-off” or “bake-off.”  If you wish, you may drop off your chili and cookies early and the committee will warm up the chili and set out the cookies.

Make plans to attend our Budget & Election meeting on Monday, December 10, at 7:00 p.m.  As you will see, individuals are still needed for the offices of Recording Secretary and Home Purpose Treasurer.  If you would be willing to serve in either position, please contact Pastor Dahling or John Nidlinger as soon as possible.

Wyneken News

Anyone currently working in the building trades and who has an interest in being a subcontractor for the Wyneken building project, please contact a member of the Building Committee by December 3, 2001.  The committee members are Jim Crosby, Randy Everett, Mike Werling (Friedheim); Tom Korte, Mike Fruchte, Alan Zimmerman (Preble); and Ron Fuhrmann, Fred Sauer, and Leroy Hartman (Bingen).

As you do your holiday shopping remember SCRIP.  Glenbrook and Jefferson Pointe certificates (good at all stores) are available.  Certificates will be available following today’s worship service from Kim Weiland.  SCRIP certificates are also sold on Friday afternoons after school.

The Scrapbooking group will meet today from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.  At that time Mendi Kaehr, a representative from “Creative Memories,” will be present if you wish to purchase scrapbooking materials or need help getting started on your first scrapbook.

There will be no East Allen afternoon bus Thursday, December 13.  Parents need to make arrangements for their children to get home that afternoon.

Market Day orders are due to the school by December 21 with internet orders due by noon on January 5.  Pick-up date is Thursday, January 10, in the school lunchroom from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Mid-term ended on Wednesday, November 28, with midterms going home on Monday, December 3.

The greenery and poinsettias arrived last week.  The 8th grader from whom you ordered your items will be contacting you about delivery and payment.  Thanks for supporting this fundraiser!

The 8th graders are selling discount cards that can be used at 23 different local businesses.  The cost of the card is $5.  These cards would make a great stocking stuffer.  For example, at Papa John’s if you buy a large or extra large pizza, you receive one free pizza of equal or lesser value.  See an 8th grader for more information.  Friedheim’s 8th graders are Tyler Armao, Sara Blomenberg, Jon Buuck, Emily Conrad, Kari Heckman, Jon Kiefer, Jacob Lee, Daniel Linnemeier, Ben Moeller, Markie Mourey, Megan Selking, and Jacob Stoppenhagen.

Campbell’s is offering a special bonus for each 50 of the following labels collected by the school by December 31.  The school can receive 200+ bonus labels for Campbell’s condensed soups, Select soups, Prego Pasta Sauce, Pepperidge Farm goldfish crackers, and V8 Splash.  Swanson broth products are also being doubled at this time.  You may drop your labels off at school or send them with a Wyneken student.

Canisters have been placed in either entranceway of the church for your convenience for you to deposit your General Mills “Box Tops for Education.”   Thanks for your support of this program.

Parents, please remember to dress your child appropriately as it becomes colder as students go outside for recess.   Please see to it that your child has a warm coat, hat, and gloves to wear.  Thanks!

Are you missing items from home?  Check the lost and found and Wyneken and the coat rack shelf closest to the kitchen for cake, cookie, and baking pans.

The 5th and 6th grade girls will play Holy Cross at Wyneken on Thursday, December 6. Games are at 4:15 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

The varsity girls (A) are playing Bethlehem Saturday, December 8, at 9:15 a.m. while the boys’ game begins at 10:30 a.m.

Come out and support our young athletes!
