+ SOLI  DEO GLORIA +

We remember our members who will celebrate birthdays this week—Erin Lengerich, Marvin Stoppenhagen, Marlin Keidel, Tom DeKoninck, Judy Werling, Kathy Brandt, Mike Buuck, Ashley Fuhrmann, Laura Fuhrmann, Matt Kiefer, Dan Gallmeyer, and Rich Weiland.  We also remember our Wyneken 7th grade teacher, Keith Dicke, our Sunday School Superintendent, Rich Weiland, and Sandy Blomenberg, who teaches St. Peter-Immanuel.  May the Lord continue to guide, direct, and bless them.

We extend our sympathy to the family and friends of Phyllis Nidlinger, mother of John Nidlinger, who was called to her heavenly home on Sunday, September 9, and was given Christian burial on Thursday, September 13.  We also remember the family and friends of Lester Geyer, brother of George Geyer, who was called to his heavenly home on Monday, September 10, and was given Christian burial on Friday, September 14.  May the God of all comfort be with these families and remind them of that great day when all believers will be reunited with our loved ones in heaven.

We pray for our country and those affected by the recent attacks.  May our Savior put his comforting arms around those who have suffered a loss, give our military personnel strength during these difficult days, and give our leaders the strength and wisdom to deal with this situation.

May the Great Physician grant health and strength to all who are in need of His presence in their life.  We especially remember Rae Fuhrmann who is hospitalized at Parkview (she has been moved out of ICU).

The flowers on the altar are to the glory of God and in honor of the 34th wedding anniversary of Ron & Bonnie Buuck who were married on September 16, 1967.  Their children and grandchildren have placed the flowers in church, with love and admiration.  The Lord’s continued blessings on them.

Included in this morning’s bulletin is our weekly study guide, “Time in the Word.”  This week’s theme is “The Demands of Discipleship.”

There will be a reaffirmation of baptism later today for Jared Alan Witte, son of Mark & Dian (Kukelhan) Witte.  Jared was baptized on April 26.  Serving as sponsors will be Wava Lichtle, Myra Peters, and Michael Linnemeier.  We pray that the Good Shepherd will keep an ever-watchful eye on this most precious of His lambs.

There will be a special door collection this Sunday and next to aid the victims of this past week’s terrorist attack.  The AAL will match the funds collected.

Tune in to the Lutheran Hour next Sunday.  The show airs on Sunday on WLW (700) out of Cincinnati at 7:00 a.m. and on Van Wert stations WERT (1220) and WKSD (99.7 FM) at 10:30 a.m. (Ohio times).  The program airs Sunday at 8:05 a.m. on WZBD (92.7 FM) and again at 3:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on WFCV (1090 AM).

If you have extra items from your garden, please continue to drop them off at the produce stand.  Produce may be placed on the table or put in the refrigerator.

Enjoy BBQ chicken today!!    Serving will begin after this morning’s worship service and continue until 2:00 p.m. (or until the chicken is gone!).  The cost is $4 for one-half chicken.  Thanks for supporting this fundraiser for the 8th graders trip to Washington, DC!

Maze Alert!  We need your help.  “AA” batteries are needed for the starlight maze that will be held every Saturday in September as well as for the haunted maze in October. You can bring the batteries to church and place them in either entranceway. In addition, does anyone have some “little red wagons” to loan for use at the maze?  Many times little ones come and the parents get tired of carrying them when navigating the maze.  Allowing them to “pull” them along would be helpful.  A golf cart, three-wheeler, or four-wheeler would also be beneficial to transport water and the maze master to the tower.  If you can lend any of these items, please contact Judy Werling.

Are you willing to donate food for Cornfusion III?  The committee is in need of hamburger, pop in cans (Pepsi or Coke products), bottled water, hot dogs, and nacho chips.  If you would prefer, you may give the committee cash and let them make the purchase.  You may bring your donations to the church basement or contact a member of the Food Committee – Tami Stoppenhagen or Mary Gallmeyer.

CORNFUSION WORKERS:  There are sign-up sheets in the entrance way for you to sign up to work one or more shifts.  Your help is needed.  The maze will be open noon to dusk on Saturday with Sunday hours noon to 6:00 p.m. Help is also needed at the starlight maze and during the week when special groups arrive.  You can also contact Tim Blomenberg, Leesa Heckman, or Joe Gorman and let them know when you can work.

LWML members are reminded that the SRD workshop is on Saturday, September 22, at 8:30 a.m. at Zion, Decatur.  The theme for this year’s workshop is “The Greatest of These is Love.”  The LWML/LLL Fall Rally will be held on Sunday, October 21, at 3 p.m. at Emmanuel (Soest).

I want to thank everyone who has been so kind to me throughout my illness and surgery.  To Pastor who helped me work through it and was there for me and encouraged me, I want to give a special thank you.  For all the cards I received, that was such a pick-me-up to know so many people cared.  Thanks so much. --- Bonnie Buuck

College Students:  Connect with your campus church by logging on to www.lsmscampus.org and click on the “get connected” tab.  Parents, once your child has their campus address, phone number, and E-mail address, please give that information to Pastor Dahling or the church office.  Please do so by September 23 so the addresses can be included in the October newsletter.  Thanks!

Today is TV Sunday, our opportunity to help the church proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ.  TV Sunday is sponsored by Lutheran Hour Ministries, in partnership with local congregations like yours.  Your prayers and heartfelt support are needed, especially now as during the next few months, Lutheran Hour Ministries will launch a far-reaching program of television outreach proclaiming the Gospel.

Mid term ends on Tuesday, September 18, with mid-term reports going home with the students on Monday, September 24.

Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 6th grade parents:  It is important to be completely up to date on your child’s immunizations and exams.  By state law, your child cannot attend school without all current immunizations.  You have fifteen days from September 5 to return the forms to school.  Please do so as soon as you have them completed.  Any questions, please contact school (639-6177).

Wyneken chapel offerings for September and October are designated for a program called “Care of Widows:  Cows for Kids.”  This program will help purchase dairy cattle (each cow costs $200) for widows from India, helping them gain nourishment and employment.  Widows in India are considered “curses” and “evil omens” and are shunned and kept out of social gatherings.  Because of this widows and their families face many social and financial problems.
