Service Note:  In place of the Te Deum Laudamus, the congregation will sing hymn #251, “We All Believe in One True God” (second tune), which is the hymn of the week for our students at Wyneken.

+ SOLI  DEO GLORIA +

We remember our members who will celebrate birthdays this week—Mendi Kaehr, Mike Linnemeier, Christian Robinson, Rachelle Buuck, Velma Schuller, Bethany Evans, Jerry Kock, Dennis Werling, Andrew Blomenberg, Beth McCloskey, Megan Schamerloh, Mike Werling, and Brett Hormann.  We also remember our Wyneken 8th grade teacher, Marv Drier, and our entire Sunday School staff as classes begin today.  May the Lord continue to guide, direct, and bless them.

May the Great Physician grant health and strength to all who are in need of His presence in their life.  We especially remember Phyllis Nidlinger, mother of John Nidlinger, who is in Adams County’s Extended Care Unit.

The flowers on the altar are to the glory of God and in honor of the 56th wedding anniversary of Gary & Dorothy Heckman who were married on September 9, 1945.  The flowers have been placed in church, with love and admiration, by their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  The Lord’s continued blessings on them.

We also remember in our prayers Rich & Eldora Scheumann who celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary last Friday, September 7.   Flowers have also been placed in church in honor of this special day.  May the Lord continue to bless this couple.

We thank Anna Buuck for sharing her gift of song with us this morning.  She is singing “Awesome God” during the offertory today.  God’s continued blessings to her.

Included in this morning’s bulletin is our weekly study guide, “Time in the Word.”  This week’s theme is “A Humble Person.”

Tune in to the Lutheran Hour next Sunday.  The show airs on Sunday on WLW (700) out of Cincinnati at 7:00 a.m. and on Van Wert stations WERT (1220) and WKSD (99.7 FM) at 10:30 a.m. (Ohio times).  The program airs Sunday at 8:05 a.m. on WZBD (92.7 FM) and again at 3:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on WFCV (1090 AM).

The Indiana District LLL Convention will be held on Saturday, September 15, at Concordia Seminary in Ft. Wayne. The time wasn’t listed on the announcement.  Contact Paul Doenges at 478-1858 for more information.

The AAL will meet following the worship service this morning.

If you have extra items from your garden, please continue to drop them off at the produce stand.  Produce may be placed on the table or put in the refrigerator.

Get ready to enjoy some more BBQ chicken!  The 8th graders are again hosting a drive-thru chicken BBQ on Sunday, September 16.  Serving will begin after that morning’s worship service and continue until 2:00 p.m. (or until the chicken is gone!).  The cost is $4 for one-half chicken.  Pre-sale tickets are available today.  By purchasing pre-sale tickets, you can be assured that you will be served and it will help the 8th grade class in planning on how much to have available.  See Sara Blomenberg, Emily Conrad, Kari Heckman, Ben Moeller, or Megan Selking for your tickets.  Thanks for supporting this fundraiser!

Maze Alert!  We need your help.  “AA” batteries are needed for the starlight maze that will be held every Saturday in September as well as for the haunted maze in October. You can bring the batteries to church and place them in either entranceway. In addition, does anyone have some “little red wagons” to loan for use at the maze?  Many times little ones come and the parents get tired of carrying them when navigating the maze.  Allowing them to “pull” them along would be helpful.  A golf cart, three-wheeler, or four-wheeler would also be beneficial to transport water and the maze master to the tower.  If you can lend any of these items, please contact Judy Werling.

Are you willing to donate food for Cornfusion III?  The committee is in need of hamburger, pop in cans (Pepsi or Coke products), bottled water, hot dogs, and nacho chips.  If you would prefer, you may give the committee cash and let them make the purchase.  You may bring your donations to the church basement or contact a member of the Food Committee – Tami Stoppenhagen or Mary Gallmeyer.

Want to help with the Haunted Maze?  The Committee will meet this Wednesday, September 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall.  Come and help with the planning!!

Concordia Seminary Guild will meet on Tuesday, September 11, at 1:00 p.m. in Kramer hall.  Dr. Douglas Rutt will speak on the topic, “Celebrate God’s Love.”  The regular meeting will follow.

CORNFUSION WORKERS:  There are sign-up sheets in the entrance way for you to sign up to work one or more shifts.  Your help is needed.  The maze will be open noon to dusk on Saturday with Sunday hours noon to 6:00 p.m. You can also contact Tim Blomenberg, Leesa Heckman, or Joe Gorman and let them know when you can work.

LWML members are reminded that the SRD workshop is on Saturday, September 22, at 8:30 a.m. at Zion, Decatur.  The theme for this year’s workshop is “The Greatest of These is Love.”  The LWML/LLL Fall Rally will be held on Sunday, October 21, at 3 p.m. at Emmanuel (Soest).

College Students:  Connect with your campus church by logging on to www.lsmscampus.org and click on the “get connected” tab.  (Parents, once your child has their campus address, phone number, and E-mail address, please give that information to Pastor Dahling or the church office.  Thanks!)

TV Sunday is coming September 16.  Sponsored by Lutheran Hour Ministries, in partnership with local congregations, the goal is to reach more men, women, and children with the Gospel through the creative use of media, especially television.  Last year, over 1,000,000 people worldwide responded to television and radio programs sponsored by Lutheran Hour Ministries.

Emanuel Lutheran Church’s Ladies Society, New Haven, is having their semi-annual rummage sale.  The sale runs on Thursday, September 13 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Friday, September 14, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  On Friday (all day), it will be a $2 bag sale.

Attendance:  Sunday Worship Service (7:30 a.m.) – 96 with 45 receiving Holy Communion; Sunday Worship Service (9:00 a.m.) – 176 with 114 receiving Holy Communion

Wyneken News

SCRIP certificates will be available following today’s worship service from Kim Weiland.  SCRIP certificates are also sold on Friday afternoons after school.

The first PTL meeting of the school year will be held on Monday, September 10, beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Child-care will be provided by the 8th grade class for a $1 fee per child.

School pictures are scheduled for Thursday, September 20.  Information will soon be coming home with your child.

Market Day order forms are included in today’s bulletin.  Order forms need to be returned to school by Friday, September 21, with internet orders due by noon, September 29.  Pick-up date is Thursday, October 4, in the lunchroom from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 6th grade parents:  It is important to be completely up to date on your child’s immunizations and exams.  By state law, your child cannot attend school without all current immunizations.  You have fifteen days from September 5 to return the forms to school.  Please do so as soon as you have them completed.  Any questions, please contact school (639-6177).

Christmas card sales kits went home with the students last Wednesday.  All orders need to be returned by Friday, September 28.  If you need extra order forms, they are available in the school office.

The band’s annual fish and tenderloin dinner will be held on Friday, October 5, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  If you have not yet indicated which time you would like to work, please contact Kristi Kitson at 728-4277.

Wyneken’s September calendar is included in this morning’s bulletin.

A non-prescription (over-the-counter) medical form was made available to each family at registration.  Without this signed consent form on file, medication cannot be dispersed.  If you have misplaced your form, contact the school office for another one.

Wyneken chapel offerings for September and October are designated for a program called “Care of Widows:  Cows for Kids.”  This program will help purchase dairy cattle (each cow costs $200) for widows from India, helping them gain nourishment and employment.  Widows in India are considered “curses” and “evil omens” and are shunned and kept out of social gatherings.  Because of this widows and their families face many social and financial problems.

ATTENTION SCRAPBOOKERS!!!!  Anyone interested in doing scrapbooking, or if you want to start, we are getting together every other Sunday at Wyneken school from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. starting this Sunday, September 9.  You can come for all or part of the time.  If you have questions, you can contact Sherri Johnson (447-0504) or Kim Weiland (724-7655).  Future dates include September 23, October 7, November 4, and November 18.

Sports

The JV soccer team will play Unity on Monday, September 10, at Wyneken at 4:00 p.m.  The varsity soccer team plays St. Peter-Immanuel on Tuesday, September 11, at 4:30 p.m. at Wyneken.  They also play St. John’s Kendallville on Wednesday at Foster 3 at 4:15 p.m. and Concordia on Friday at Kreager 8 at 4:15 p.m.  The varsity volleyball (A) plays Flatrock on Wednesday, September 12, at 4:00 p.m. and on Saturday they have games with Concordia and Central beginning at 1 p.m. at Concordia High School.  The JV girls volleyball team plays Concordia at home on the 13th with the 5th graders starting at 4:00 p.m. and the 6th graders at 5:00 p.m.

With the start of the season, the Boosters are also asking for your help.  Don’t forget that if you have a child involved with sports you are already a member of the Booster Club.  The concessions at Wyneken bring in a substantial portion of the Booster’s budget.  We can’t have concessions without adult help, however.  Please consider working at least at one home game for each sport in which your child participates.  There is a sign-up sheet in the hallway at Wyneken (or you can call Ruth Heckman and let her know when you can volunteer).  Thanks for your help!
