+ SOLI  DEO GLORIA +

We remember our members who will celebrate birthdays this week—Timberlee Weiland, Jim Buuck, Alyssa Strickler, Marla Manley, and Richard Buuck.  We also remember our Wyneken school board, especially those members from Friedheim, Phil Franke, Jim Heckman, and Stan Stoppenhagen.  May the Lord continue to guide, direct, and bless them.

May the Great Physician grant health and strength to all who are in need of His presence in their life.  We especially remember Velma Schuller who is now a resident at Village of Heritage (12011 Whittern Road, Monroeville, Indiana), Phyllis Nidlinger, mother of John Nidlinger, who is in Adams County’s Extended Care Unit.

Included in this morning’s bulletin is our weekly study guide, “Time in the Word.”  This week’s theme is “The Fire of God’s Word.”

Tune in to the Lutheran Hour next Sunday.  The show airs on Sunday on WLW (700) out of Cincinnati at 7:00 a.m. and on Van Wert stations WERT (1220) and WKSD (99.7 FM) at 10:30 a.m. (Ohio times).  The program airs Sunday at 8:05 a.m. on WZBD (92.7 FM) and again at 3:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on WFCV (1090 AM).

The Indiana District LLL Convention will be held on Saturday, September 15, at Concordia Seminary in Ft. Wayne.  See the insert in today’s bulletin for more information (the time wasn’t listed on the announcement).

A Bible study for young adults (18-35) will be held in the Luther Room at the Ft. Wayne Seminary from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, September 14.  The Bible study will be lead by Rev. Phillip Bloch.  There will also be live band music.  Please RSVP to Ben (E-mail:  Benup2@aol.com or phone 219-485-1183 by Friday, September 7.

If you have extra items from your garden, please continue to drop them off at the produce stand.  Produce may be placed on the table or put in the refrigerator.

Are you willing to donate food for Cornfusion III?  The committee is in need of hamburger, pop in cans (Pepsi or Coke products), bottled water, hot dogs, and nacho chips.  If you would prefer, you may give the committee cash and let them make the purchase.  You may bring your donations to the church basement or contact a member of the Food Committee – Tami Stoppenhagen or Mary Gallmeyer.

Cornfusion opens this weekend.  There are sign-up sheets in the entrance way for you to sign up to work one or more shifts.  Your help is needed.  The maze will be open noon to dusk on Saturday with Sunday hours noon to 6:00 p.m.  The maze will also be open on Labor Day from noon to 6:00 p.m.  You can also contact Tim Blomenberg, Leesa Heckman, or Joe Gorman who are on the Staffing Committee.

COUNCIL MEMBERS:  The minutes from the August 7, 2001 council meeting are in your slots in the entrance way of church.  You may pick them following this morning’s worship service.  The next council meeting is Tuesday, September 4.

Media Day at the maze has been set for Thursday, August 30, beginning at 10:30 a.m.  Realizing that school will be in session and that age group will be unable to attend, we need as many members to come to the maze that morning.  If you are retired or aren’t working that morning, please consider coming to the maze.  Thanks in advance for your help!

LWML members are reminded that the SRD workshop is on Saturday, September 22, at 8:30 a.m. at Zion, Decatur.  The theme for this year’s workshop is “The Greatest of These is Love.”  The LWML/LLL Fall Rally will be held on Sunday, October 21, at 3 p.m. at Emmanuel (Soest).

Sunday School is scheduled to begin on September 9.  If you are interested in teaching, substituting, or helping in any way with this year’s Sunday School, please contact Rich Weiland (724-7655) or Sharon Franke (623-3992).

Next week will be our final early-bird service for this year.  The first service will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the regular service starting at 9:00 a.m.  Holy communion will be celebrated at both services.

College Students:  Connect with your campus church by logging on to www.lsmscampus.org and click on the “get connected” tab.  (Parents, once your child has their campus address, phone number, and E-mail address, please give that information to Pastor Dahling or the church office.  Thanks!)

LYF ushers for September are Joey Des Jean and Adam Buuck.

The early-bird Bible class will resume on Tuesday, September 4.  The class is held at Bingen’s Fellowship Hall.

My Work – by Dale Crowley

If I should fail to do the work
Which God designed for me,
In all the world, there’s not a soul
To do my job, you see.

Some may accomplish what I could not,
And gather much fame and wealth,
But no other creature which God has made
Can do my work but myself.

So, however humble my task may be,
And how much tempted to quit,
I’ll remember each day as I press along,
There’s nobody else to do it.

Wyneken News

SCRIP certificates will be available following today’s worship service from Kim Weiland.

The 4-year-old Pre-K class will begin on Monday, August 27.  The morning class will go from 8:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. with the afternoon class beginning at noon and going until 2:30 p.m.  The 3-year-old Pre-K class will begin on Tuesday, September 4.  Questions?  Contact Anne Hess.

Market Day orders can be picked up on Thursday, September 6, in the lunchroom from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

An open house is scheduled for Tuesday, September 4, beginning at 7:00 p.m.  The Scholastic Book Fair will also be open (and will last through the week).  Take this opportunity to visit your child’s classroom, ask questions, and possibly purchase some books.

Once again Wyneken is collecting Campbell’s labels, Big G box tops, and pop tabs.  The funds received from the labels and box tops go directly in our library fund and help with book purchases.  The pop tabs will be given to help support the Ronald McDonald House at Riley’s Children’s Hospital.  Thanks for supporting these projects!

The K-Mart Corporation sponsors a School Spirit program.  A parent pack explaining this program will soon be sent home.  Every time a School Spirit Card is presented with a purchase at K-Mart, a portion of the eligible purchase will accumulate into a contribution to our school.  This is a year-round program.

Recycle those empty ink cartridges.  Bring the cartridges to Wyneken or to the Parish Hall (a box will also be setting outside the church office).  Ink jet (payment up to $3), lazer, copier, and fax cartridges (payment up to $12) will be accepted.  This is also a year-round program.  The money will be used for various programs at Wyneken.  You may wish to ask your company, fellow workers, and area businesses to help save these cartridges.

Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 6th grade parents are reminded that your child be up-to-date on their immunizations and exams.  Kindergarten packets are available in the school office.  Please return these forms as soon as possible.
