+ SOLI  DEO GLORIA +

We remember our members who will celebrate birthdays this week – Bill Fuhrman, Dave Houser, Irene Kiess, Dennis Scheumann, Cindy Houser, Jason Scheumann, Josh Scheumann, Madison Stoppenhagen, DeWayne Gallmeyer, Sara Bultemeier, Sharon Colchin, Nathan Jackson, Tom Blomenberg, Freddie Geels, Gary Robinson, and Eldora Scheumann.  We also remember our Wyneken faculty and staff as Wyneken begins its 2001-2002 school year tomorrow.  We especially remember Mr. Lowell Timm who was installed as principal at this morning’s worship service at Bingen.  May the Lord continue to guide, direct, and bless them.

We welcome Tanner Jaxson Walker into our congregation through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism.  Tanner is the son of Brian and Amy (Kalthoff) Walker.  Serving as godparents are Mark and Karen Stahl.  May the Good Shepherd keep an ever-watchful eye on this the most precious of His lambs.

May the Great Physician grant health and strength to all who are in need of His presence in their life.  We especially remember Velma Schuller who is now a resident at Village of Heritage (12011 Whittern Road, Monroeville, Indiana), Phyllis Nidlinger, mother of John Nidlinger, who is in Adams County’s Extended Care Unit, and Bonnie Buuck who underwent surgery last Wednesday and has returned home.

The flowers on the altar are to the glory of God and in honor of the 80th birthday of Linda Buuck which was celebrated last Friday, August 17.  Her children and grandchildren, with love and admiration, placed the flowers in church.

Included in this morning’s bulletin is our weekly study guide, “Time in the Word.”  This week’s theme is “The Faith of the Christian.”

Tune in to the Lutheran Hour next Sunday.  The show airs on Sunday on WLW (700) out of Cincinnati at 7:00 a.m. and on Van Wert stations WERT (1220) and WKSD (99.7 FM) at 10:30 a.m. (Ohio times).  The program airs Sunday at 8:05 a.m. on WZBD (92.7 FM) and again at 3:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on WFCV (1090 AM).

The Morning Glories will resume meeting on Tuesday, August 21, at 9:00 a.m. in the Parish Hall.  New faces are always welcome.  Come, and be a part of this group.

The produce stand has done well so far with profits of $500.  The stand could use donations of paper bags and plastic sacks.  You may bring these items to the stand.  If you have extra items from your garden, please continue to drop them off at the stand.  Produce may be placed on the table or put in the refrigerator.

Are you willing to donate food for Cornfusion III?  The committee is in need of hamburger, pop in cans (Pepsi or Coke products), bottled water, hot dogs, and nacho chips.  If you would prefer, you may give the committee cash and let them make the purchase.  You may bring your donations to the church basement or contact a member of the Food Committee – Tami Stoppenhagen or Mary Gallmeyer.

Cornfusion will be open to the congregation on Sunday, August 26.  You have two options that morning.  You may attend services at church at 7:30 a.m. that day or you may attend the special service at the maze that is scheduled to begin at 9:15 a.m.  Bring your lawn chair with you to the maze and be sure to dress casual.  Following the service, the congregation is invited to navigate the maze and enjoy a luncheon.  Hope to see you there!

Final preparations for the opening of Cornfusion III will be held on Saturday, August 25, beginning at 8:30 a.m.  There is plenty of work for everyone—all ages are welcome!  The more willing hands, the quicker the work will be finished.  Thanks in advance for helping make the maze a success!

Cornfusion III, A Maze Odyssey, brochures are available in the church entrance way.  If you know of a group, organization, or school that may be interested in coming to the maze, you may wish to take them a brochure that provides information for this year’s maze.

There will be an AAL meeting following the worship service this morning.  They will meet in the back of church.

Thank you Pastor Dahling for the many visits and prayers with Bertha during her illness and final hours.  Thanks to all who visited  and remembered Bertha with cards.  Our thanks to the church women who prepared the wonderful meal.—The family of Bertha Witte

There is a door collection for Lutheran Social Services this morning.

LWML members are reminded that the SRD workshop is on Saturday, September 22, at 8:30 a.m. at Zion, Decatur.  The theme for this year’s workshop is “The Greatest of These is Love.”  The LWML/LLL Fall Rally will be held on Sunday, October 21, at 3 p.m. at Emmanuel (Soest).

On Sunday, August 26, St. Thomas Lutheran Church, 6299 German Church Road, Ohio City, Ohio, invites you to join them in celebrating our German heritage.  “Food for the soul” is the title of the special worship service which will begin at 10:00 a.m. (Ohio time) followed by “Food for the body,” German food and music.

College Students (and parents of college students):  We need your E-mail addresses (as well as college address and phone number).  You can contact Pastor Dahling by E-mailing the address to him at our site, www.zionfriedhiem.org, or by giving him a call.  If the address is the same as last year, we need that information also.  Connect with your campus church by logging on to www.lsmscampus.org and click on the “get connected” tab.

Attendance:  Sunday Worship Service - 220; Monday Night Bible Class – 8.

Stewardship Prayer

O God, our loving Creator and Giver of all good gifts, bless our church, strengthen our faith and grant us the spirit of Christian stewardship so that we may give generously of our time, talent and money to the spread of your kingdom here in our church and throughout the world.  This we ask through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God now and forever.  Amen.
