The Acolyte

Kari Heckman

We remember our members who will celebrate birthdays this week – Nina Marie Secaur (her first birthday), Patty Strickler, Bernice Berning, Ruth Hartmann, Hildegard Kiefer, Dale Heckman, Monica Manley, Linda Buuck, Carma Conrad, Dave Conrad, Rich Hartmann, and Andrea Jackson. May the Lord continue to guide, direct, and bless them.

May the Great Physician grant health and strength to all who are in need of His presence in their lives.  We especially remember Velma Schuller and Phyllis Nidlinger, mother of John Nidlinger, who are in Adams County’s Extended Care Unit.

We remember in our prayers the family and friends of Corena Buuck who was called to her heavenly home last Sunday, August 5, and was given Christian burial on Wednesday, August 8.  We pray that God’s comforting arm will be around those that mourn.

The flowers on the altar are to the glory of God and in honor of the 25th wedding anniversary of Tom & Micki Blomenberg this Tuesday, August 14.  Their daughters, with love and admiration, placed the flowers in church.

Parents, please encourage your children to come forward when called to hear the sermon geared especially to them.

Included in this morning’s bulletin is our weekly study guide, “Time in the Word.”  This week’s theme is “Possessed by Possessions.”

Tune in to the Lutheran Hour next Sunday.  The show airs on Sunday on WLW (700) out of Cincinnati at 7:00 a.m. and on Van Wert stations WERT (1220) and WKSD (99.7 FM) at 10:30 a.m. (Ohio times).  The program airs Sunday at 8:05 a.m. on WZBD (92.7 FM) and again at 3:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on WFCV (1090 AM).

The produce stand has done well so far with profits of $500.  The stand could use donations of paper bags and plastic sacks.  You may bring these items to the stand.  If you have extra items from your garden, please continue to drop them off at the stand.  Produce may be placed on the table or put in the refrigerator.

Are you willing to donate food for Cornfusion III?  The committee is in need of hamburger, pop in cans (Pepsi or Coke products), bottled water, hot dogs, and nacho chips.  If you would prefer, you may give the committee cash and let them make the purchase.  You may bring your donations to the church basement or contact any member of the Food Committee – Tami Stoppenhagen or Mary Gallmeyer.

The Foods Committee will meet on Wednesday, August 15, in the school basement at 7:15 p.m.  If you have signed up for this committee, please come to the meeting.  If you are unable to attend, please give Tami Stoppenhagen a call at 728-9101.

Cornfusion will be open to the congregation on Sunday, August 26.  You have two options that morning.  You may attend services at church at 7:30 a.m. that day or you may attend the special service at the maze that is scheduled to begin at 9:15 a.m.  Bring your lawn chair with you to the maze and be sure to dress casual.  Following the service, the congregation is invited to navigate the maze and enjoy a luncheon.  Hope to see you there!

Altar Guild will meet on Tuesday, August 14, at 7:30 p.m.

The Morning Glories will resume meeting on Tuesday, August 21, at 9:00 a.m. in the Parish Hall.  New faces are always welcome.  Come, and be a part of this group.

Cornfusion III, A Maze Odyssey, brochures are available in the church entrance way.  If you know of a group, organization, or school that may be interested in coming to the maze, you may wish to take them a brochure that provides information for this year’s maze.

Next Sunday, August 19, you are invited to attend the installation service at St. John’s Bingen of Lowell Timm, Wyneken’s principal.  This service will begin at 8:00 a.m.  We pray the Lord’s blessings on Mr. Timm as he begins his ministry here.

Our church services next week will begin at 9:15 a.m. in order for those who wish to attend the installation service to do so and still be able to come to Friedheim for services.

Next Sunday, August 19, there will be a door collection for Lutheran Social Services.

To my Friedheim family,

Thanks for all the prayers and cards for me during my recent hospital stay and surgery.  To Pastor Dahling, for your many visits and  prayers.  To Bob Armao, for your prayers and care. It’s really heartwarming to know so many people care.  God bless you all.
