The Acolyte

Tyler Armao

We thank our fieldworker, Tim Stout, for preaching this morning.  We pray the Lord’s blessings upon him as he continues his studies for the ministry.

We remember those members who will celebrate birthdays this week – Jill Blomenberg, Chad Fuhrman, Evie Fuhrman, Shelli Spangler, Brandon Miller, Benjamin Miller, and Randy Moellering.  May the Lord continue to guide, direct, and bless them.

May the Great Physician grant health and strength to all who are in need of His presence in their lives.  We especially remember Phyllis Nidlinger, mother of John Nidlinger, who is in failing health, Corbin Bultemeier who underwent surgery last Friday and Bonnie Buuck who will undergo surgery tomorrow.

Congratulations to Heidi Knipstein and Jim Wilkinson who were married yesterday afternoon at St. John’s Bingen.  We pray that the Lord will guide and bless this couple as they begin their lives together.

We remember John & Nan Nidlinger who will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary this Tuesday, July 17.  We also remember Al and Shirley Hormann who will celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary on Saturday, July 21.  We pray the Lord’s continued blessings upon each of these couples.

We remember the family and friends of Bertha Witte who was called to her heavenly home last Sunday, July 8, and was given Christian burial on Thursday, July 12.  We also remember the family and friends of Joyce Bultemeier, sister-in-law of Leonard Bultemeier, who was also called to her heavenly home last Sunday, July 8, and was given Christian burial last Thursday.  May the God of all comfort be with those who mourn and remind them of that great day when we will be reunited with our loved ones in heaven.

We remember in our prayers our Synod.  At yesterday’s convention, a new president of our Synod was elected.  We pray that the Lord would guide him and our Synod as well as bless the work of the church.

Included in this morning’s bulletin is our weekly study guide, “Time in the Word.”  This week’s theme is “The Nature of the Kingdom.”

Tune in to the Lutheran Hour next Sunday.  The show airs on Sunday on WLW (700) out of Cincinnati at 7:00 a.m. and on Van Wert stations WERT (1220) and WKSD (99.7 FM) at 10:30 a.m. (Ohio times).  The program airs Sunday at 8:05 a.m. on WZBD (92.7 FM) and again at 3:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on WFCV (1090 AM).

There will be an AAL meeting following the worship service this morning.  The meeting will be held in the back of the church.

The LWML will continue their ingathering through August 12.  You may still bring items to church and place them in the boxes in either entrance way.  A list of needed items is posted in the entranceway.  One item needs to be added to that list.  Christian children’s books, in good condition, are also needed.

The Monday evening Bible class will be held tomorrow.  However, it will last only until 7:45 p.m.  This will allow those who wish to attend the Association meeting the opportunity to do so.

The Camp Watcha-Wanna-Do benefit will be held at Hoagland on Saturday, July 21.  Activities are tentatively planned from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.   Questions?  Contact Kevin or Dawn Buuck (724-7952).

Thanks to all who helped cut out the maze.  Your help was so much appreciated.  The produce stand is now open and is in need of your donations.  If you have extra items from your garden, please drop them off at the stand.  Produce may be placed on the table or put in the refrigerator.

Your help is needed to pass out Cornfusion brochures at the 4-H parade on Tuesday evening, July 24.  (Last year a group roller bladed the parade route and passed out brochures, but you can walk it too!) If you would be willing to help, please contact Judy Werling.

New Hope Lutheran Church is establishing a new fellowship program for seniors to be held on a quarterly basis.  The first dinner will be held on Thursday, July 26, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in their Fellowship Hall.  Look forward to sharing a good time with a tasty meal, a speaker, and entertainment.  A free will offering will be accepted.  Reservations are due by Monday, July 23.  Call 622-7954 and leave your phone number on the answering machine.  Your call will be returned.

The men’s softball team has one game this week.  They will play Felling at 7:00 p.m. at Hoagland on Monday, July 16.

Wyneken Expansion Financial Update

We would like to thank everyone who has made pledge contributions to this important project.  As printed in the 2nd quarter financial reports, we had a total of $176,971.14 on hand as of June 30, 2001.  The pledges are a significant portion of the Expansion budget.  As of June 30, we should have received $72,400 of pledge contributions—the actual received was $31,725.  As this project gets underway, please remember your commitment.  Let’s set a goal to be back on budget by the next quarterly report (September 30, 2001)!

As a reminder, everyone is eligible for up to a $100 match from AAL on your contribution.  If you have volunteered 20 or more hours at Wyneken, you are eligible for an additional $25 match.  We have learned more about this program since last year.  Here are the updated guidelines.

The Association meeting will be held at Bingen’s Fellowship Hall on Monday, July 16, at 8:00 p.m.   Please make plans to attend this important meeting of our school.  An update on the expansion will also be given.

SCRIP certificates will be available following today’s worship service from Kim Weiland.  Think of your summer vacation plans as you look over the SCRIP order form.  There are hotels, gasoline stations, airlines, and restaurants listed on the form.

Want a little snack when grocery shopping today?  Our 8th graders will be selling hot dogs and pop at the Decatur Scott’s store from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Watch the mail for registration forms.  They will be mailed out in mid-July.

Wyneken School will be closed for waxing the floors from July 15 through July 28.

Plans are to move the Timm family to their rental home on Saturday, July 28.  They will be renting a home, located on 750 N, from the Bulmahn family.  A crew is leaving at 5:00 a.m. on the 28th.  If you would be willing to go along to help clean each room (sweep, wash windows, etc.) as items are loaded unto the truck, please contact Phil Franke.  If you can help unload once they return (later that same afternoon), please contact Pastor Dahling.  He will compile a list of volunteers and will call them with the tentative arrival time
