Statement of Communion Practice

1 Corinthians 10:16 calls our eating and drinking of the sacramental bread and wine an actual sharing in the body and blood of Christ.  As we share this gift of the Savior, we also seek to be faithful to the confession of the Apostles' Doctrine, which Scripture says was shared by those who received the Sacrament of the Altar together.  For this reason, we  practice close communion and ask that guests desiring to commune to kindly speak with the pastor before the service.

May the Great Physician grant health and strength to all who are in need of His presence in their lives.  We especially remember Jim Baumgartner, father of Lisa Bultemeier, who has returned home.

We remember in our prayers the family and friends of Clara Hummel, Randy Everett's grandmother, who was called to her heavenly home on Tuesday and was given Christian burial yesterday.  We also keep the family and friends of Dr. Alvin Barry, President of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, who was called to his heavenly home on Friday, March 23, in our prayers  Dr. Berry's funeral was last Friday.  May the God of all comfort be with those who mourn  and remind them of that great day when they will be reunited with their loved ones in heaven.

We rejoice with Mitch & Angie (Miller) Baumann on the birth of their son, Jacob Mitchel, on Friday, March 23, at Lutheran Hospital.  May the Good Shepherd keep an ever-watchful eye on this most precious of His lambs.

We remember our members celebrating birthdays this week -- Aaron M. Conrad, Ted Gallmeyer, Doug Putteet, Velma Buuck, Ben Miller, Rich Scheumann, Nick George, and Leesa Heckman. We also remember our first grade teacher, Donna Schieferstein as  well as Lisa Lee, one of our Sunday School teachers, and Kristie Brown who teaches in the public school in our prayers.  May the Lord continue to guide, direct, and bless their lives.

Included in this morning's bulletin is a study guide ("Time in the Word") for this week.  Please take a few moments each day to go over this information.  The theme for the week is "The Nature of God's Love."

We wish to thank Cindy Houser for playing the organ this morning.  We appreciate her sharing her gift of music with us.

Make plans to attend our midweek Lenten service.  Church begins at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.  Seminarian Bob Armao's sermon will be "Don't Be Afraid to Do Right."

Listen to  The Lutheran Hour.  The show airs on Sunday on WLW (700) out of  Cincinnati at 7:00 a.m. and on Van Wert stations WERT (1220) and WKSD (99.7 FM) at 10:30 a.m.  The program can also be heard on Sunday at 8:05 a.m. on WBZD (92.7 FM) and at  3:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on WFCV (1090).  Tune in to hear Dr. Dale Meyer's sermon, "Oh, God, I Hurt!"  Chronic pain can cause many good people to despair.   At the beginning of Holy Week and our Savior's intense suffering, Dr. Meyer directs us to Jesus as the source of hope when we seem to suffer without end.

Just a reminder that the LYF will have a gym night on Sunday, April 8, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Plans will be made for the Easter breakfast that day also.  The freshmen are asked to bring one gallon of orange juice to the breakfast while all other classes are to bring one dozen donuts or rolls to the Easter breakfast.  Set up time for the breakfast will be announced at gym night.

The Lutheran Home is asking for cakes to help celebrate April birthdays.  Still needed are two white and two yellow cakes (disposable pans to bake these cakes in are available from Margaret Buuck).  If you are willing to donate, please contact Margaret Buuck at 639-3835.  These cakes  need to be in the church basement by noon on Tuesday, April 10.

Tickets for the annual Lutheran Home Card Party are available from Margaret Buuck.  Date for this event is April 18 beginning at 1:30 p.m. and will be held  in Assembly Hall at Lutheran Home.  Tickets are $3.

Church Council Members:   Minutes from the March 13, 2001 Council meeting can be picked up in your slots in the entrance way of the church after the worship service this morning.  The next Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 3.

Make plans to attend the LWML Praise Service at Preble this Saturday, April 7.  with registration at 8:30 a.m.  Layettes will be collected for the ingathering.  A luncheon will follow the service (a freewill offering will be accepted).  Babysitting will be provided if needed.  Your prayer request should be submitted to the LWML registration table.

Make plans to attend our Quarterly Meeting on Sunday, April 8.  The meeting will begin following the worship service.

The date for grounds clean up has been set.  Please bring rakes and shovels with you on Saturday, April 7, beginning at 8:00 a.m.  Stones and sticks need to be picked up and removed from the lawn as we get ready for the mowing season.  Also as we head in to mowing season, any decorations/flowers/plants in the cemetery that would impede mowing need to be removed.  Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

The LWML Quarterly Meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 10, at 7:30 p.m.  in the Parish Hall.  One item on the agenda is working on children's quilts for the convention.

If you are placing flowers in church for Easter and did not order flowers through the Decorating Committee but wish to have this contribution noted in the Easter bulletin, please contact the church office with the needed information by Tuesday, April 10.

There are a few who have ordered Easter flowers from the Decorating Committee but have not yet paid for the flowers.  Please do so soon by placing your contribution in the offering plate in an envelope marked "Easter flowers" or give it to one of the Committee members.  Thanks!

Concordia Seminary Guild will meet on Tuesday, April 10, at 1:00 p.m. in Luther Hall.  Those attending are asked to brin items for the "April Shower" for the benefit of Christ Child Learning Center.  All ladies of the congregation are welcome.  Call Janet Hamman at 493-2754 for information.

Thank you for the cards, visits, and Christian care and concern shown to me following Walter's death.  I also wish to thank the Bereavement Committee for the delicious meal served after the funeral.  A special thank you to Pastor Dahling for the words of comfort, his visits, and prayers.   May the Lord bless each of you.

Wyneken is currently collecting aluminum can tabs to help support the Ronald McDonald House in Indianapolis.  There are a few cardboard boxes for collection in the entry ways, for your use.  You can also bring the tabs to the school office.  This collection will go through the end of the school year.  Thank you for your help.

See Kim Weiland after the worship service today, if you wish to purchase SCRIP.  Time for that spring spruce up?  Remember Arnold's Lumber, Home Depot, Lowe's, Menard's, and True Value and purchase some SCRIP to do some of those home improvement projects.

Totals are in from the fourth quarter, 2000 of the AAL Gift Matching program.  Wyneken received $52,985.  Of this amount, $9,990.48 was credited to Friedheim.
