The Acolyte Matt Nidlinger

May the Great Physician grant health and strength to all who are in need of His presence in their lives.  We especially remember  Lydia Kalthoff, Karl King, and Doris Conrad who were hospitalized but have since returned home.

We remember our members celebrating birthdays this week -- Julie Heimann, Josh Miller, Marlene Conrad, Sara DesJean, Bonnie Werling, Lydia Kalthoff, Kent Kiefer, and Brian Moeller. We also remember our second grade teacher, Emily Norder, as well as Shirley Drier, one of our Sunday School teachers, and  Judy Baumann who teaches in the public school in our prayers.  May the Lord continue to guide, direct, and bless their lives.

During the offering, the trio of Ashley Fuhrmann, Laura Fuhrmann, and Dawn Heckman will be playing "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring."  We thank them for sharing their gift of music with us this morning.

Included in this morning's bulletin is a study guide ("Time in the Word") for this week.  Please take a few moments each day to go over this information.  The theme for the week is "God Receives Sinners."

Make plans to attend our midweek Lenten service.  Church begins at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.  Pastor Dahling's sermon will be "Don't Be Afraid to Be Accepted."

Listen to  The Lutheran Hour.  The show airs on Sunday on WLW (700) out of  Cincinnati at 7:00 a.m. and on Van Wert stations WERT (1220) and WKSD (99.7 FM) at 10:30 a.m.  The program can also be heard on Sunday at 8:05 a.m. on WBZD (92.7 FM) and at  3:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on WFCV (1090).  Tune in to hear Dr. Schultz's sermon, "Jesus Triumphs at the Finish Line." When Jesus said, "It is finished," this was not the end but the beginning.   Human battles may alter political borders for a brief time, but the battle Jesus won for us has changed thins forever.

Congratulations to our men's basketball team.  They lost a close game to Preble in the championship game finishing second in the post-season tournament.  Great season, guys!

Orders for Easter flowers are due today.  An insert has been included in this morning's bulletin for your convenience.  You may give your order to Sharon Franke or Dian Witte this morning or place your order in the boxes which are in either entrance way of church.

There will be an AAL meeting in the back of church following the worship service this morning.

A big THANK YOU!!   The Soup & Sandwich Dinner was a big success.  We served 535 people, not including carry-outs, compared to 417 served last year (remember the snowstorm) and 503 served in 1999.  Less expenses, the dinner netted $2,676.56.  The craft and bake sale had a profit of $718.77.  This brings the total profit to $3,395.33 which will go towards the repair of the church windows.  A very special thank you to all who donated food items, gave a cash contribution, or volunteered their time.  Without the support of the congregation, our dinner would not have been a success.

                                                      Leonard & Christine Bultemeier

Did you get your pans and dishes back from the Soup & Sandwich Dinner?  Are you missing dishes from funeral donations?  Please check the Parish Hall kitchen to retrieve your dishes.  Thanks!

AAL is hosting a seminar on charitable gift planning.  The seminar will be held on Thursday, March 29, at 9:00 a.m. (with breakfast served at 8:30 a.m.) at St. John's Bingen Parish Hall.  Please call 219-724-4222 or 1-800-359-9920 to reserve a place for you and a guest.  More information is on the insert included in today's bulletin.

Just a reminder that the LYF will have a gym night on the second Sunday in April (not the first as is usual) from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Plans will be made for the Easter breakfast that day also.

St. John's Bingen Men's Club will be having their Fish and Tenderloin Dinner, today from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Wyneken Lutheran School.  Tickets are:  Adults -$6.50, Children 6-12 -$3.50.  Carryouts will be available.  Proceeds will go to the Wyneken School Expansion Fund.

The Poe Volunteer Fire Department invites you and your family to their "All-You-Can-Eat" pancake and whole hog sausage brunch on Sunday, March 25.  Serving will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Poe Fire Station.  Bulk sausage will be sold.  This will be an AAL Matching Funds Event.

Lutherans for Life will meet on Sunday, March 25,  at 1:30 p.m. at Zion in Decatur.  If you struggle with issues related to abortion and wonder if it is ever justified, we will be viewing a video that will help you sort it out.  Please come and join us.

Dear Friends,

Again the members of Friedheim have shown such support for our family during some difficult weeks.  For the cards and expressions of sympathy following mom's death, thank you.  For the cards, food, encouragement, and, most importantly, prayers following Andy's surgery and recovery, thank you.  We especially want to thank Pastor Dahling for his visits and support.  We are truly blessed to have each of you in our lives; may the Lord bless each of you.

               Allen & Shirley Buuck

To Friedheim and the Bereavement Committee,

All the work and time that was put into the wonderful dinner served to us meant so much to all our family and friends.  Thank you again.  -- Elsie Keuneke

Wyneken News

We remember Kevin Brockburg in our prayers as he has been called to serve as principal at our Wyneken school.  He currently serves as principal at Our Shepherd Lutheran School in Birmingham, Michigan.  May the Lord guide him as he contemplates this call.

Wyneken has also issued a contract to Mr. Keith Dickey to be the 7th grade home room teacher.  He will teach 7th and 8th grade subjects as Mr. Drier and Mrs. Schwantz will share 8th grade home room duties.  Mr. Drier will be coordinating our computer and technology curriculum on a half-day schedule while Mrs. Schwantz will teach language arts on a half-day schedule.

Registration forms for the 2001-2002 school year have been mailed.  If you do not receive one by Monday, March 19, please contact the school office.  Forms need to be returned by Friday, March 30, to avoid a $25 late fee.  Questions?  Contact the school office at 639-6177.

There will be no band on Friday, March 23.  Band has been rescheduled to Thursday, March 22.  There will be no band the week of March 26.

Wyneken's spring break will follow the East Allen schedule this year and will be the week of April 2--April 6.  North Adams students will not have any bus service March 26--March 30, due to the North Adams spring break. Please make arrangements for your children's transportation to and from school during this week.

Market Day orders need to be returned by Tuesday, March 27.  Order forms are included in today's bulletin.  Internet orders are due by noon on April 4.  Orders may be picked up on Monday, April 9, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.  Their cookie dough is on special this month.

Wyneken is currently collecting aluminum can tabs to help support the Ronald McDonald House in Indianapolis.  There are a few cardboard boxes for collection in the entry ways, for your use.  You can also bring the tabs to the school office.  This collection will go through the end of the school year.  Thank you for your help.

Are you interested in bidding on the mowing job at Wyneken?   If so, please contact a School Board member (Friedheim's representatives are Phil Franke, Jim Heckman, and Stan Stoppenhagen) by the end of the month.

See Kim Weiland, our new church representative, after the worship service today, if you wish to purchase SCRIP or if you would like to know how you can help.  New vendors are Fazoli's with a 10% return and returning is Schwan's with a 4% return.
