Statement of Communion Practice

Our communion liturgy recognizes the eternal community of heaven (angels and archangels and all the company of heaven).   We believe that our praise is joined with those who have gone before us in the faith.

As Jesus gives us His body and blood today, we look forward to that day  when, with all the saints, we will receive pleasures at God's right hand, forevermore.  At that time, it will not be necessary to witness to the truth of God's Word.  But as that time is not yet, such witness must still be given today.  Out of love for God's Word and for God's people, we therefore practice  closed communion.  Guests who desire to commune are kindly asked to speak with the pastor before the service.

May the Great Physician grant health and strength to all who are in need of His presence in their lives.  We especially remember Alma Boenker, mother of Shirley Buuck,  who is in extended care at Adams County Memorial Hospital,  Fred Keuneke, who is a patient at Adams County Memorial Hospital, and also Andy Buuck, who will be having surgery on Thursday at University Hospital in Cincinnati.

We remember our members celebrating birthdays this week -- Laurina Conrad,  Randy Everett, Ryan Linnemeier, Merilyn Stoppenhagen, Gretchen Baumann, Mitch Baumann, Harvey Caston, Pam Everett, Don Gehres, Rosa DeKoninck, Vivian Miller, Clayton Stoppenhagen, Kimberly Weiland, Tricia Bultemeyer, Keven Buuck, Nathan Conrad, Alex Miller, Kylene Nidlinger, J.J. Everett, and Janice Heimann.    We also remember one of our 5th grade teachers, Mary Nichols, as well as, Sandy Blomenberg, who teaches at our sister congregations' school, St. Peter/Immanuel, and also, Kent Kiefer, one of our Sunday School teachers, in our prayers.  May the Lord continue to guide, direct, and bless their lives.

Included in this morning's bulletin is a study guide ("Time in the Word") for this week.  Please take a few moments each day to go over this information.  The theme for the week is "What God Does For Us."

Listen to  The Lutheran Hour.  The show airs on Sunday on WLW (700) out of  Cincinnati at 7:00 a.m. and on Van Wert stations WERT (1220) and WKSD (99.7 FM) at 10:30 a.m.  The program can also be heard on Sunday at 8:05 a.m. on WBZD (92.7 FM) and at  3:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on WFCV (1090).  Tune in to hear Dr. Meyer's sermon, "God Sits High but Looks Low."  Dr. Meyer found that going from high atop New York's World Trade Center down to the street is not unlike the truth of Tranfiguration:  Jesus, the high and glorious Son  of God, comes down and brings salvation to you wherever you are contending with real life.

Sunday, February 25 is Lutheran Hour/LLL Sunday; there will be literature available in the bulletin of interest to you.  The Lutheran Hour will also be sponsoring a breakfast on Saturday, March 10 at 8:00a.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 917 West Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne.  Tickets are available at a cost of $5.00 each; please contact Ted Blomenberg for tickets, if you would like to attend.
