We remember our members celebrating birthdays this week -- John Nidlinger, Abagail Bultemeier, Bonnie Buuck, Eldora Fuelling, Roger Manley, Chad Baumann, and Patty Strickler.   May the Lord continue to guide, direct, and bless their lives.

We remember in our prayers Marc Lichtle and Angie Tinkham who were married yesterday afternoon at our altar.  May the Lord bless them as they begin their lives together.

We welcome the Weiland family as the newest members of Friedheim.  Richard and Kimberlee along with their children, Richard Alexander and Timberlee Jane, transferred to us from Zion, Decatur.  We pray God's blessings upon them in their new church home.

May the Great Physician grant health and strength to all who are in need of His presence in their lives.

After a century marked by monstrous crimes against humanity and sin in every aspect of personal life, why do so many people still refuse to repent and implore God's help against evil. Hear Dr. Dale Meyer's message, "When the Monsters Come,"  on the The Lutheran Hour.  The show airs on WOWO beginning at 7:35 a.m.  It's also on at 8:05 a.m. on 92.7 FM, and at  3:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on 1090 on Sunday.

Included in this morning's bulletin is a study guide ("Time in the Word") for this week.  Please take a few moments each day to go over this information.  The theme for this week is "The Togetherness of God's People."  If you have any comments about this new program, please contact pastor or one of the Elders

The Altar Guild will have their quarterly meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 8.  New members are always welcome!

Following the 9:00 a.m. service today, the congregation is invited to the Cornfusion 2000 site  for an opportunity for fun and fellowship.  Go through the church maze and the stained glass challenge maze.  Stay and enjoy a light luncheon.  A freewill offering will be accepted.  The maze will open to the public at noon, so there should be plenty of time for fun and fellowship.

There are Cornfusion T-shirt order forms in either entrance way of the church.  Orders are due on August 13, with payment due no later than August 27.  The shirts should be available by September 3.  There is a sample of the shirt in the south entranceway.  Questions?  Contact Jane Thieme, Carol Selking, or Carma Conrad.

The Foods Committee is asking for donations through October.  Coke and Pepsi products (especially Mountain Dew) as well as bottled water are  needed.  along with hot dogs, hamburger, and nacho chips.  Cash donations are also being accepted.  You may bring your donations to church or contact any member of the Foods Committee - Dorothy Heckman, Denise Conrad, Mary Gallmeyer, or Tami Stoppenhagen.  They would be more than willing to pick up the items from you.  Thanks in advance for your help.

The starlight maze is in need of AA batteries for the flashlights which the participants will use to wander through the maze.  Please drop your batteries off at the produce trailer during the week and place them on one of the shelves inside, or place the batteries inside the concessions trailer during maze hours.  The first starlight maze will take place on Saturday, August 12, from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Staffing needs at the maze are ongoing.  Make sure you check your calendars and sign up on the sheets in either entrance way of the church to work at the maze.  You may also call someone on the Staffing Committee - Tim Blomenberg, Leesa Heckman, or Lester Werling.

On Sunday, August 20, at 3:00 p.m. the Midwest Chinese Ministry will have its first annual meeting and conduct a celebration service at Concordia Lutheran Church (4525 Lake Avenue, Ft. Wayne).  As part of the celebration, a meal,  following the service, will be catered by one of the members of the Chinese outreach congregations.  If you plan on attending, please contact Pastor Dahling or Doris Conrad by Sunday, August 13.

The dates for the Glenbrook Bazaar have been set.  The bazaar will be held on Friday and Saturday, September 8 and 9.  Check your schedules and see when you will be able to help.  Set up will be Thursday night, September 7,  starting at 8:00 p.m.   The Morning Glories will resume their crafting activities on Tuesday, August 22, at 9:00 a.m. in the Parish Hall.  Come, be a part of this group!

The LWML Thursday morning Bible class will meet at the home of Marlene Conrad on August 10.

College Students (and parents of college students):  Soon it will be time to move to campus (either on-campus housing or apartment living).  Once that address has been determined, please let Pastor or the church office know.  Phone numbers and E-mail addresses are also needed.  Thanks in advance for your help!

Wyneken News

After a thorough search for a qualified candidate for the position of principal, none has been found.  Consequently, members of the faculty have stepped forward to take on administrative responsibilities.  Dean Wass will serve in the position of principal for the coming year with Richard Schwantz and Rae Lynn Fuhrmann serving as vice principal.  The Board has hired a fifth grade teacher.  Mrs. Mary (Bohnke) Nichols has accepted this position.  She was originally from the Monroeville area, attending Flatrock and graduating from Monroeville High School.  Her husband, the Rev. Jerrold Nichols, served as pastor at Shepherd of Peace Lutheran Church in Irvine, California but  has recently retired.   Please keep Wyneken and the Nichols family in your prayers.

The Hot Lunch Committee is looking for a third cook.  Please contact Mike Werling (724-9383) for more details.

Do you have an interest in sports?  Can you donate some of your time to our Wyneken athletes?  Our young Warriors need you!  There are many coaching openings at Wyneken for the 2000-2001 school year.  We have openings at all levels in volleyball, boys and girls soccer, as well as boys and girls basketball.  While game times are unchangeable for the most part, practice dates and times can be arranged around your schedule.  To offer your help or to have any questions answered, please call Marv Drier at 547-4419.

SCRIP will be available at the Cornfusion site this morning following the second worship service.  See Kris Blomenberg  if you wish to purchase SCRIP.

Registration day will be held on Tuesday, August 15, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  If you cannot make it that day, please call the school (639-6177) and make other arrangements.

Stop by the Coke wagon outside the Decatur Scott's on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, August 11, 12, and 13.  The 8th graders will be selling hot dogs and Coke from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Enjoy a snack and help the 8th graders earn their trip to Washington, DC.
