The Theme of the Day

The Growth of the Kingdom

Ezekiel 17:22-24

Like a twig, God plants and the Kingdom grows
2 Corinthians 5:1-10  Through the body, Christians produce the fruit of good work
Mark 4:26-34   As a seed, God's Kingdom grows to maturity

"Walking in the Dark"
2 Corinthians 5:7

We walk by faith not by sight.
1. We must have faith
2. We must have courage
3. We must have hope

The Acolyte Dawn Heckman

We remember our members celebrating birthdays this week -- Kent Stoppenhagen, Brandon Buuck, Dawn Buuck, Nathan Buuck, Kari Heckman, Lucas Michael Strickler (his first birthday), and Jill Blomenberg.   May the Lord continue to guide, direct, and bless their lives.

We rejoice with Ryan and Erin (Hormann) Lengerich on the birth of their son, Payton James, on Saturday, July 1.  May the Good Shepherd keep an ever-watchful eye on this most precious of His lambs.

We extend our Christian sympathy to Esther Gallmeyer as her mother, Helen Scare, was called to her heavenly home and was given Christian burial last Sunday.  May the God of all comfort be with her.

May the Great Physician grant health and strength to all who are in need of His presence in their lives.  Esther Nuerge was a patient at Caylor-Nickel Clinic this past week.

We remember in our prayers Jill Baker and Jason Scheumann who were married at St. Mary's yesterday afternoon.  We also remember Beth Blomenberg and Scott McCloskey who will be married on Tuesday in Hawaii.  May the Lord bless these couples as they begin their lives together.

We also thank Cindy Houser for playing the organ for us this morning.  May the Lord also bless her as she shares her gift of music with us.

King Joash strayed from the Lord in his later years; sadly, many people today also renounce their faith.  Hear Rev. Wallace Schulz's   message, "Faithful to the End," on the The Lutheran Hour.  The show airs on WOWO beginning at 7:35 a.m.  It's also on at 8:05 a.m. on 92.7 FM, and at  3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on 1090 on Sunday.

The men's softball team has one game this week.  They'll face Soest on Tuesday, July 11, at 8:30 p.m. at Hoagland.

Included in this morning's bulletin is a study guide ("Time in the Word") for this week.  Please take a few moments each day to go over this information.  The theme for this week is "The Creatures & The Creator."  If you have any comments about this new program, please contact pastor or one of the Elders.

Ladies, do you remember receiving a mite box?  It's now time to start collecting those mites.  A box is in the entrance way of the church for you to deposit your mites.  You may also  bring them with you to the next LWML meeting which will be held on Tuesday, July 18, at 7:00 p.m.

Soon the maze will be open.  The Foods Committee is asking for donations.  Coke and Pepsi products (especially Mountain Dew) are  needed.  Hot dogs and hamburger (40 lbs.) are also on the request list.  If you would prefer to give cash and let the committee make the purchase, that would also be helpful.  You may bring your donations to church or contact any member of the Foods Committee - Dorothy Heckman, Denise Conrad, Mary Gallmeyer, or Tami Stoppenhagen.  They would be more than willing to pick up the items from you.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Since the entry area for the maze is on grass this year, the idea was to use picnic tables rather than straw bales for seating.  If you could lend your picnic tables to the maze from August through October, please let Judy Werling  (639-6132) know as soon as possible.  A group may be needed to build some if enough tables are loaned.

Our Quarterly Voters' Meeting will be held following the church services today.  Reports from our various boards and committees will be given.

Wyneken News

Two triangular-shaped dollies are missing from the storage room at school.  They are used to move the teachers' desks.  If you know where they are, please contact Kim Ehlerding, the Wyneken custodian, at 547-4229.  If the dollies aren't returned soon, new ones will need to be purchased.

See Kris Blomenberg or Becky DeKoninck after the worship service this morning if you wish to purchase some SCRIP.  Look at the hotels, gas stations, and restaurants that are participants in SCRIP while making your vacation plans.   Great news!  Glenboork gift certificates (with a return of 4%) will be available mid-July.  Just think of the possibilities.  These certificates are good for all stores at Glenbrook Square and Glenbrook Commons.  Keep this in mind when doing that back-to-school shopping as well as looking at those end-of-summer bargains.

Don't want to go home and cook following our Voter's Meeting this morning?  Our 8th graders have the solution.  Enjoy a drive thru chicken BBQ.  Chicken will be sold today from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Meyer's old gas station (across from Wyneken) or you may pick up your chicken at Friedheim (at Pastor's garage) after church as well as after the church meeting.   Tickets are $4 for chicken. (Pre-sale tickets are good from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.)

Your car, van, or truck need washed?  The 8th graders can help.  Come to their car wash at the Decatur Wal Mart parking lot from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  on Saturday, July 15.  A free will donation gets you a clean car.  Profits go to their Washington, DC trip.  (Rain date is July 22.)

The Annual Wyneken Association Meeting will be held on Monday, July 17, at 8:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Bingen.   Please plan to attend.  One of the items to be discussed is the proposed expansion.
