Announcements

We remember our members celebrating birthdays this week -- Marv Drier, Stan Stoppenhagen, Loren Gallmeyer, Al Hormann, Walter Nuerge, Phil Franke, Kevin Linnemeier, Rachel Smithley, Judy Baumann, Cliff Buuck, Margaret Buuck, Leonard Fuhrmann, and Bertha Witte.  In addition, we remember in our prayers our Wyneken 7th grade teacher, Marvin Drier, as well as Jan Heimann who teaches in the public school system.   May the Lord continue to guide, direct, and bless their lives.

We remember Gerhard and Hildegard Kiefer in our prayers as they celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary today.  May the Lord continue to bless this couple.

May the Great Physician grant health and strength to all who are in need of His presence in their lives.  We especially remember Barb Geyer who was hospitalized this past week and Gerhard Buuck.

We welcome Greggory Patrick Wayne Buuck, son of Robert & Julie (Lehman)  Buuck, into membership as he will be baptized later today.  Serving as godparents are Karen Buuck and Joseph Lehman.  May the Good Shepherd keep an ever-watchful eye on this most precious of His lambs.

We thank Robert Armao for delivering this morning's sermon.  We pray that the Lord will continue to be with him as he continues his studies for the ministry.

There will be a door collection today for our local LWML.

The flowers handed out this morning to the ladies of the congregation are a gift from the Sunday School students.   It is their way of showing their appreciation to their mothers, grandmothers, aunts, or other special lady in their lives.

There are a lot of religious opinions floating around in this new millennium.    However, there is only one confession of faith that the Lord will accept and bless.  All true religion comes back to what Isaiah was talking about in his reference to the crucifixion of Christ.  Hear Dr. Wallace Schulz's message,  "God-Pleasing Religion for the New Millennium,"  on The Lutheran Hour.  The show airs on WOWO at 7:35 a.m.,  at 8:05 a.m. on 92.7 FM, and at  3:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on 1090 on Sunday.

There will be no Monday evening Bible class this week.  Class will resume next Monday, May 22.

The last day of Sunday School will be on May 21.  The Sunday School picnic and Sunday School Recognition will be held on Sunday, June 4.

The Morning Glories are going to take a "spring/summer break."  However, one final workday is planned for Tuesday, May 16, beginning at 8:30 a.m.  The group will be working on cutting old jeans into strips to ready them for being made into rag rugs.  Please bring willing hands, scissors, and/or rotary cutters and mats.  Bring a lunch to stay the day.  If you can't come for the day, why not come for a few hours in the morning or afternoon.

The 3rd Annual Friedheim Open will be held on Saturday, June 24, at Cross Creek in Decatur.  Cost for a four-person team is $100.  A meal will again be served.  Sponsors are also needed.  A registration form was included in the May newsletter. If you have questions or would like to be a sponsor, please contact Paul Des Jean or Gene Kiess.

Reservations for the Chicago Bus Trip on Saturday, July 1, need to be returned by May 27.   The cost is $35.  You may enjoy the 20th annual "Taste of Chicago" and/or the 10th annual "Country Music Festival." in dowtown Chicago.  Shopping and museums are also nearby.  Questions?  Contact Cindy Berning (459-6883).  Registration forms are included in this morning's bulletin.

The men's softball team has two games this week.  They face Zion (Decatur) on Tuesday, May 16, and Flatrock on Wednesday, May 17.  Both games begin at   7:00 p.m. and will be played at Hoagland.

The LYF will have a paper/aluminum can drive this Saturday, May 20.  LYF members should be at the Parish Hall at 8:00 a.m.  If you wish the youth to stop at your home, please contact Corbin or Lisa Bultemeier or Pastor Dahling.

Don't forget to bring items for the LWML ingathering to church by Sunday, June 11.  The Evansville Rescue Mission and School Kits for Haiti are the recipients of the ingathering.  Items needed (Rescue Mission) are men's underwear, men's T-shirts, socks, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, disposable razors, and shaving cream and (School Kits) children's vitamins, 8" x 11" ruled paper (100-150 sheets), blunt scissors, ruler (centimeter & inches), pencil sharpener, eraser, and gallon Ziploc freezer bag.

Dear Members of Zion, Friedheim,

I would like to thank all those who kept me and my family in their prayers as we considered the call that had been extended to me.  The kind words and thoughts shared with us were greatly appreciated and very humbling.  The whole experience served to remind us how special Zion, Friedheim, is to us.  May the Lord continue to bless you as you have been a blessing to us.

Marv Drier
