Announcements

We remember our members celebrating birthdays this week -- Carol Hitzfield, John Nidlinger, Jr., Tom Brandt, Helen Erxleben, Craig Linnemeier, Caleb Buuck, Marilyn Buuck, Marc Lichtle, Jim Crosby, Matt DeKoninck, and Andrew Werling. In addition, we remember in our prayers our Wyneken 7th grade teacher, Marv Drier, and one of our public school teachers, Judy Baumann.  May the Lord continue to guide, direct, and bless their lives.

We rejoice with Tyler and Julie (Buuck) Lehman on the birth of their son, Ethan Tyler, on Saturday, January 15.  May the Good Shepherd keep an ever-watchful eye on this most precious of His lambs.

May the Great Physician grant health and strength to all who are in need of His presence in their lives.  We especially remember in our prayers this morning    Irene Kiess who is a patient at an Arizona hospital and Sam Derrow (Misty Gehres' father).

There will be a door collection today for the family of Ernie Muller.

For years it has been assumed that top scientists do not believe in God and  that evolution is fact, not theory.  These myths, however, are being rapidly exposed.   Hear Dr. Wallace Schulz's message, "Evolution:  Running Out of Time?"  on The Lutheran Hour.  The show airs on WOWO at 7:35 a.m. and at 8:05 a.m. on 92.7 FM on Sunday.

Lutheran Hour Ministries sponsors the "Woman to Woman" program.  It can be heard on WLAB (88.3 FM) at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday or on WLYV (1450 AM) at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.  Next week's  program will be "Performance:  Mastering the Zone."  Guests provide practical tips for reaching and maintaining optimum physical and mental performance.

Friedheim's men's basketball team will play at 8:00 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 24, at Monmouth.   Their opponent will be Pleasant Mills.

LYF MEMBERS:  We will host a spaghetti dinner  next Sunday, January 30.   Serving will begin in the Parish Hall immediately after the worship service and continue until noon.  Each LYF member is asked to bring one medium jar of spaghetti sauce.  In addition, the seniors should bring a 9" x 13" cake with all other members to bring one pie.  Set up for the dinner will be at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, January 30.  If any parents would like to help with the meal, please contact Corbin or Lisa Bultemeier as soon as possible.

The second date to mark on your calendar is Sunday, February 6.  The LYF will be going skiing that day with plans to leave from the Parish Hall no later than 5:30 a.m.  The plan is to attend a church in Michigan that morning and then hit the slopes.  Please let Corbin or Lisa know if you plan on going on the trip and if you intend to bring a friend (the friend needs to pay their own way) by   next Sunday.  Adult drivers and/or chaperones are needed.  If any parents or other members of the congregation would like to help, please let Corbin or Lisa know as soon as possible.   Come and join in the fun!!

As you can see, work on the church roof is soon to begin as the scaffolding is being put in place.  As a result, the sidewalks will be blocked for a period of time.  Although this is an inconvenience, the result, a new roof, will be well worth it.

Council Members:  The minutes from the January 4 Council meeting are in your slots in the entrance way of the church.  Please note that the next Council meeting will be held on Monday, February 7, since Pastor Dahling will be teaching a course at Lutheran Bible Institute on Feb. 1.

Altar Guild will meet on Monday, February 7, at 8:00 p.m.

LWML Ladies:  Would you like to receive the LWML Quarterly this year?    The cost of the quarterlies are $4 per year.  We are asking the members who wish to receive this to cover the cost of their Quarterlies. If so, please contact Laurina Conrad, the LWML treasurer, by March 1 and give her the $4.  Thanks!

Don't forget to pick up your Annual Report.  The Report as well as the 2000 Church Directory are in the back pew.

Lutheran Bible Institute will begin on February 1 at Zion Lutheran School in Decatur with the classes starting at  7:30 p.m. and running until 9:30 p.m.  An insert is included in this morning's bulletin detailing the four courses being offered.  You may register for these classes with our parish representatives, Tim or Elfurt Blomenberg, before February 1 or register the day the classes begin.

The Vision 2000 Committee will have its first meeting of the year on Monday, February 7, at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall.  This is a very important meeting.  The goals for the year 2000 need to be established.  If you are a member of the Friedheim Foundation or the Finance Committee, you are a member of the Vision 2000 Committee.  The Vision 2000 Committee will meet on a monthly basis at 7:00 p.m. prior to the monthly Council meetings.  If you have any questions, please contact Cindy Houser.

Have you remembered your "Prayer Partner" lately?

Hoagland Area Advancement Association is sponsoring an "all U-can-Eat" whole hog sausage and pancake brunch today.  Serving will be from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Hoagland Pavilion.  The cost is $4.50 for adults and $2 for children (ages 6-12).  Age 5 and under eat for free.
