Announcements

We remember those members who are celebrating birthdays this week -- Sara Bultemeier, Sharon Colchin, Nathan Jackson, Tom Blomenberg, Gary Robinson, Eldora Scheumann, Jim Buuck and Alyssa Strickler.  We also remember our Wyneken faculty, staff, students and parents as the 1999-2000 school year begins tomorrrow. May the Lord continue to guide, direct, and bless their lives.

We welcome into membership through the Sacrement of Holy Baptism Lucas Michael Strickler, son of Jeff and Patty (Kiefer) Strickler.  Serving as sponsors are Kent and Michele Kiefer.  May the Good Shepherd keep an ever-watchful eye on this most precious of His lambs.

We rejoice with Erik Blomenberg and Emily Burman who were married on Friday, August 20, at Ft. Wayne's Botanical Gardens.  May the loving Savior bless them as they begin their lives together.

We also remember Dick and Evie Keuneke as they celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary today.  May the Lord continue to bless their marriage.

We extend our Christian sympathy to the friends and family of Owen Stevens, father of Angie Buuck, who was called to his heavenly home on Monday, August 16, and was given Christian burial on Thursday, August 19.  We also remember the family and friends of Rosella Franz, grandmother of Cindy Houser, who also was called to her heavenly home and was given Christian burial on Friday, August 20.  May the God of all comfort be with these families.

We remember in our prayers this morning Louise Fuhrmann who is a patient at the Extended Care Unit at Adams County Memorial Hospital, Georgianna Alvarez (Addy Schuller's sister) who is in an Ohio hospital recovering from burns, Alan Bergdall (great-grandson of Olga Reifsteck) who is a patient at Parkview, Andy Buuck who is scheduled for surgery at the University of Cincinnati Hospital this week and Ernie Muller who continues under doctors' care. May the Great Physician grant health and strength to them and all who are in need of His presence in their lives.

An author on anger says, "Anger wears spiritual masks."   Dr. Dale Meyer looks at anger in the active religious life of St. Paul.  Hear Dr. Dale Meyer's message, "Anger, A Curious Gift" on The Lutheran Hour. The show airs on WOWO at 7:35 a.m. (8:05 a.m. on 92.7 FM) on Sunday.

Lutheran Hour Ministries sponsors the "Woman to Woman" program. It can be heard on WLAB (88.3 FM) at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday or 11:00 a.m. on WLYV (1450 AM) on Sunday. Listen to next week's program, "Big Brother isn't the Only One Watching!"  How much do you reveal about yourself when you go online in chat rooms, E-mail or on the Web?  Are your children giving out information that could put you or them in danger?  Learn ways to protect your privacy online and talk to your kids about Internet do's and don'ts.

Parents, please encourage your children to come forward this morning when called for the children's sermon.  This message is geared especially for them.

There will be an AAL meeting in the back of church following this morning's service.

Just a reminder that "Cornfusion"  is going to be open September 6 (Labor Day) from noon to 6:00 p.m.  Helpers ar still needed  for that day (as well as other days in September and October).  Contact any member of the staffing committee (Ron or Bonnie Buuck, Les or Karen Conrad, Don or Shirley Gehres or Delmar or Joyce Heckman) if you can help.

LYF MEMBERS!! Last week it was decided to work "Cornfusion"  on Sunday, August 29.  Shifts are noon to 3 p.m. and   3 p.m. to 6 p.m.  Please let Pastor, Corbin or Lisa Bultemeier, or Ron Buuck know today which shift you can work next week.

A sign-up sheet for the Glenbrook Bazaar is located in the south entrance way. The bazaar will be on Friday and Saturday, September 10 and 11, with set up on Thursday night, September 9. Your help will be needed to make this a successful sale this year. (The bazaar dates coincide with a wedding, the SDR workshop, and "Cornfusion" as well as other conflicts.) Please check your calendars and see if you can fit this activity in your schedules. Profits from the sale will go towards the new church roof. (AAL is again using this as a "Helping Hands" project.)

Morning Glories will resume meeting this Tuesday, August 24, at   9 a.m. in the Parish Hall.  If you enjoy doing crafts, why not come and help get things ready for the Glenbrook Bazaar.  The group normally stays until 11:30 a.m.   Hope you can come!

Parents of College Students:  As your student leaves for that dorm room or off-campus housing, please don't forget to give the church office his or her campus address, phone number and E-mail address.  This information will be published in the newsletter for others to be able to contact your student as well as being able to send the newsletter and other information to them.

Items for the September newsletter should be in the church office by Tuesday, August 24.  Thank you for your help in this matter.
