Announcements

We thank our Seminarian, Kevin Meyer, for delivering this morning's sermon message. May the Lord continue to bless him as he continues his studies for the ministry.

Pastor Dahling and his family are on vacation and will be returning this Saturday, August 1. We pray for their safety while they are away. In the event that you will need any pastoral assistance this week, contact Pastor Tom Olson (639-6178) or Pastor Dan Brege (547-4256).

We rejoice with Jeff and Patty (Kiefer) Strickler on the birth of their son, Lucas Michael, on Wednesday, July 14. May the Good Shepherd keep an ever watchful eye on this most precious of His lambs.

We remember those members who are celebrating birthdays this week -- Kevin Conrad, Candice Shannon, Mike Conrad, Erica Everett, Brandon Kock, Trevor Baumann, Ted Blomenberg, Shelby Bultemeier, Rebecca Evans, Deb Gallmeyer, Erin Heimann, Mike Miller, Frank Buuck, Gene Kiess, Ron Bultemeier, April Erxleben, Drew Heckman, and Matt Miller. May the Lord continue to guide, direct, and bless their lives.

We remember in our prayers this morning, Louise Fuhrmann, who is in the extended care unit at Adams County Memorial Hospital. May the Great Physician grant health and strength to her and all who are in need of His presence in their lives.

Anger is a natural emotion that we all experience though we handle it in different ways. Dr. Dale Meyer looks at how some people in the Bible handled "The Gift of Anger." Hear his message on The Lutheran Hour. The show airs on WOWO at 7:35 a.m. (8:05 a.m. on 92.7 FM) on Sunday.

Lutheran Hour Ministries sponsors the "Woman to Woman" program. It can be heard on WLAB (88.3 FM) at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday or 11:00 a.m. on WLYV (1450 AM) on Sunday. Listen to next week's program, "Clearing the Haze on Hazing." Fraternities and sororities on college campuses conduct a rite of initiation for pledge classes. But what happens when hazing goes too far. Guests discuss the pain and how they found healing.

Parents, please encourage your little ones to participate in the children's sermon this morning. This message is geared especially to them.

There will be two worships services next Sunday - the early-bird service beginning at 7:30 a.m. and the regular service at 9:00 a.m. Holy communion will be celebrated at both services.

The men's softball team will be playing in the league tournament on Saturday, July 31, at 1:30 p.m. against Zion-Decatur at Hoagland. We wish them the best as they close out their season.

There are still a few dishes left from dinners, funerals, etc., in the church basement. Any items left after this week will be taken to the Parish Hall kitchen to be used there.

The first week of "Cornfusion" went well. Opening day brought out 22 people and a profit of $200. Last Sunday, 140 individuals went through the maze with a profit of $1,000!! (In addition, $911 was donated on July 11 when the maze was open to church members only.) Thanks to all who have helped with this project so far. Brochures are available from Judy Werling this morning for you to take to work if you wish to help promote the maze.

The truck garden is in need of bushel baskets, bushel baskets, quart containers, and pint containers. Please contact Teri Conrad at 724-8464 if you can help with supplying some of these baskets. Also, don't forget to give Teri a call as your produce becomes available.

The "Cornfusion" food committee has been meeting and would welcome any contributions of the following now and throughout the summer and fall.

Bottled water Pop (in cans) - Pepsi or Coke products Mustard
Hamburger Buns (hot dog and hamburger) Nacho chips
Hot dogs Cash

You may contact any committee member -- Tami Stoppenhagen (728-9101), Kris Blomenberg (547-4673), Evie Fuhrman (639-3158), Dorothy Heckman (547-4497), Janice Buuck (432-9039) & Joy Erxleben (547-4139); they would also be willing to pick up your donation. Thanks in advance for your help

Volunteers are needed to work at "Cornfusion." Sign-up sheets are available in the entrance ways of church. Please take a moment to check your schedules and see when it would work for you to help at the maze. There is a master schedule in the south entrance way of the church for you to check to remind you of when you signed up. Please complete the form and return to any committee member (listed on the sheet) as soon as possible. Everyone's cooperation and participation is needed to make "Cornfusion" run smoothly.

Has "Cornfusion" got you in a "tassel?" Having difficulty "field"ing questions from interested parties about the corn maze? Did you know that the church web site is "ear" to "ear" with "Cornfusion" information? "Stalk" on over to www.zionfriedheim.org and "pick" up some "kernels" of data. Share the web site with a friend!

Just a reminder that a Special Voters' Meeting is planned for Sunday, August 8, following the worship service. Bids on the church roof will be the topic of discussion.

Youth ushers for August are Justin Jackson and Joey Des Jean.
