The Accolyte

Adam Buuck

We remember Eldine Boese who is a patient at Adams County Memorial Hospital in our prayers. We pray that the Great Physician will be with her and all others in need.

We rejoice with Mike and Dawn (Gallmeyer) Miller who were blessed with a healthy baby girl, Emily Elizabeth, on Wednesday, December 30. May the Good Shepherd keep an ever watchful eye on this most precious of His lambs.

We remember those members who are celebrating birthdays this week Pastor Dahling, David Buuck, Brett Gallmeyer, Sheila Putteet, Davon Bultemeier Waldo Conrad, Kris Blomenberg. Lori Caston, and Dennis Schuller. We also remember Ken Germann, our Learning Center teacher, in our prayers. May the Lord continue to guide, direct and bless their lives.

Hopelessness may be common in the secular world, but it is not found in God's kingdom. Learn how to put pessimism behind you. Hear Dr. Wallace Schulz’s message, "Arise, Shine, for Your Light has Come," on The Lutheran Hour next Sunday. The program is broadcast at 7:35 a.m. on WOWO and at 8:05 a.m. on 92.7 FM.

Lutheran Hour Ministries sponsors the "Woman to Woman" program. It can be heard on WLAB (88.3 FM) at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday or 11:00a.m. on WLYV (1450 AM) on Sunday. The program on January 10 is "Is the Church Relevant for Today?" Many people are noting the growing hunger for authentic spirituality but feel the church of today is out of touch. What are people looking for today? And, what does the church have to offer?

The Sunday School children have again brought their mite collections for the Vision 2000 campaign to church this morning. We thank them for this donation.

Friedheim's men's basketball team will play United Brethren at 6:00 p.m. at Monmouth tomorrow night.

The Annual Report will be put together soon. If you are to submit a report, please have it to the church office by Thursday, January 7. Thanks in advance for your help.

The audit of the church books will be held next Sunday January 10, at 1:00 p.m. the Parish Hall (Chapel Room) Questions? Contact Wally Bultemeier.

It's not too late to register for February's Fabulous Family Retreat at Camp Lutherhaven on February 6-7! New activities, speakers, and friends will be present. Plenty of free time will also be available to do activities as families. Call 219-636-7101 for more information. There are also registration forms in either entranceway of the church.

There will be no Sunday School or Bible Class this morning. Classes will resume next Sunday January 10.

There will be a door collection for Concordia Seminary today.

Have you remembered your "Prayer Partner" lately?

The January 1999 calendar listed a School Board meeting on both January 7 and January 14. There is no meeting on the 7th. Please correct this on your calendar.

Market Day order pick-up date is Monday, January 11, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Questions? Please visit www.marketday.com or contact Anne Fuhrmann.

The second quarter ends on Thursday, January 14. Report cards will go home on Wednesday, January 20.

There will be no school on Friday, January 15, because of teacher in-service.

It's Super Bowl time again! Get ready for your party by ordering sub sandwiches from the 8th graders. These 6-inch subs are made with ham, turkey, salami, and two kinds of cheese and are only $2.50. Orders can be picked up at Wyneken on Friday, January 29 or after church on Sunday, January 31. There were order forms in your January newsletter. Forms are also available in either entranceway of the church. You can give your order to any 8th grade student. Friedheim's 8th graders are Dan Buuck, Joey Des Jean, Kevin Heckman, Craig Linnemeier, and Zach Stoppenhagen.

SCRIP will be available today following the worship service. Thanks to all who have used this program. If you haven't yet tried it, why not consider purchasing some grocery store SCRIP. Gerber's, Kroger, Meijer's, Sturges, Scott’s, Health Matters, and Swiss Way Cheese are all participating vendors. See Kris Blomenberg this morning if you wish to make a purchase or if you have questions about the program.
